Every time you do that, your taking years off the lifespan of that ecu.
Potentially you could fry it with the surge.

Really? Why would Lexus put this in their service manual as the #2 method for resetting the ECM if it could "fry" the ECM?

Have you ever seen the power protection inside an ECM? It's nuts compared to anything I've seen short of military avionics.
