Default exhaust opinions (x pipe or resonators)

Hey guys i have a 01 GS430, no major plans, so far i just did a K&N drop filter and added universal magnaflow 14829's i left the rest of the exhaust stock because i don't want it to be really really loud.

It's still pretty quiet though, i'd like to make it just a little bit louder, do you think i should have the two rear resonators removed, or just replace the middle resonator with a xpipe?

thanks for any input.

98-00 the middle contains a muffler, 01-05 it's a catalytic converter. Regardless, removing the resonators is the way to go. OR replace the middle cat with a high flow cat which will give you a little more sound.

get rid of all the resonators and replace with Xpipe and cats...the 14829s are pretty quiet as it is. Mine is all broken in and it's relatively quiet until you punch it

I replaced my mid-pipe and 3rd cat with a 2.25" mandrel bent stainless set-up with x-pipe. This is welded to my Carson Tuned cat back exhaust. Sounds deep and throaty and not too loud ( and I also have S&S headers ).

thanks for the input guys, I guess i'll go ahead and do the x-pipe to delete the mid cat/resonator thing, and also delete the two rear resonators..

i'm just afraid of having it too loud and having it sound too obnoxious for my daily.. i'll give it a shot though cause the 14829's where alot quieter then expected..

Kaydee & TeeLex didn't know you hung around these parts, sold my SC needed a family car though.

I would NOT start with the center cat or resonators.

First try a simple muffler delete. Remove the rear mufflers and see how it sounds. If acceptable you can have 2 pipes made to replace the mufflers.

The center cat and factory Y pipe flows fine.

Try the muffler delete and then GET headers.

wait so my 99... that "secondary cat" isnt a seconday cat??? its just a muffer?

so off the engine its..

Engine - 2Headers - 2Primary Cats - 1Muffler - 2Resonator - 2Muffler?

I'm starting to lean towards a custom cat back set up using Magnaflows and 2.25 pipe. I'm seeking improved performance with still a relatively quiet sound. What's the benefit of the X pipe?

You cant put a xpipe on a gs3 and you really wont get to much gain off a exhaust.

As long as you leave the stock mufflers on it'll be quiet during normal driving. However, once you hit the throttle harder it'll produce a nice v8 rumble just like a $1000+ exhaust system. I've converted to 2.25" piping all around removed 3 resonators at the back, not sure if 1 of them were cats though, kept the stock mufflers, "H" pipe setup, add some nice dual tips, and it's mean as hell. The only problem I'm having right now is it's throwing a CEL. I'm not sure if it's because the "H" pipe setup, or if it's the possible 3rd cat that I removed. I'm also thinking maybe it was the 3rd cat that was preventing the CEL from coming on due to bad main cats. Does anyone know if that's possible.
