I have a 99 GS 300 and the other day I installed an RMM intake. I put the intake on and took off the battery per advice here on the board and for the first 2 days, floor the accelerator each chance I get so that the MAS gets used to the filter.
Now, I'm noticing that each time I drive, the ECU starts to shift gears at around 5000-6000RPM. Is this normal ? It doesn't sound too good for the engine...
Regular driving it shifts at around 3500 which is normal but man, on the freeway, it shifts 6K.
does it shift at 6000rpm when you floor it on the free way? if thats the case then its fine thats what its supossed to do. Now on the other hand if it shifts at 6000rpms on normal driving then something is wrong, try restting your ECU if that doesnt work, then I would replace the intake with the stock one and see if it goes back to normal shiftting patterns, if that happens then your intake is flawed, if not then you need to take your car to the dealers to get it checked out
Yes you are correct, The car shifts at around 6K on the freeway or whenever i get the urge and (heh heh) floor it. I am just Type A in personality and worry a lot. I hear all sorts of bad stuff about my RMM intake (although I don't really see what's so wrong about it) and I just want to be on the cautious side.
I was driving the car 10 minutes ago and regular driving if I dont' floor it, it shifts between 3500 and 4500 RPM (which is regular?) it's only when I floor it and it hits 3rd gear that it goes 6K. I guess that is normal from your depiction.
For those who have say the SRT or Weapon R intake, do you get the same thing? (6K shifts?) and if so, is that normal?
