Now that is pretty darn impressive, do you use a custom, harness, off the shelf or do you splice into the factory harness?

UPDATE: I think i've reached my limit on boost for now, according to the zeitronix wideband, I made 11.3lbs and 6200, A/F 10.5, lamda .68-.78. I probably shouldn't go any smaller on pulleys, but I will still add the 3rd tensioner pulley to help w/ slipping/ consistency. It felt pretty ridiculous at 11.3. I finally figured out how to deal with the rev limiter issue (backing off just a bit at like 5900, then shifting to 3rd while keeping it above 45-5000), that keeps it from hitting the limit but keeps the boost above 7-8 lbs.

I still have the rich fuel mixture problem, between 9.6 and 10.5 @6000 ish. these are the possible issues/ solutions

1. Injectors too large, they say sl2-310, so either they are 310 CC and there's something else wrong or they are 550CC and I need smaller one's, how can I know for sure?

2. My injectors are 310 CC and my fuel regulator is broken? (this was suggested) how to test?

3. the wideband is messed up?

4. My SAFC is broken? it just so happens that I have another one sitting on the shelf, so myabe I should test. if a wire was crossed or improperly soldered could it cause this? like maybe instead of pulling back fuel I'm adding?

My fuel ratio issue is my main concern seeing as I'm at the limit on boost, hopefully someone can walk me thourhg the troubleshooting of this issue. Thanks all for looking and all the help/ info so far.

I kinda merged 3 harnesses together and custom built a plug and play harness. I used the factory GS harness, a boomslang patch harness for the GS ecu(for the PnP portion), and a Mitsu EVO8 patch harness. Yes I'm running my car on a EVO8 AEM EMS lol. I built it so it's all easily removable without splicing into the original factory harness. It can click in and out and be removed within 5 mins.

Man, you're crazy lol. Take it easy on the boost man. The SAFC isn't a very accurate fuel controller so there's always the possibiliy that you might fry the motor. The factory ecu tends to run on the extra rich side when on full throttle. I think I've seen 10AFR range or so on a stock GS when on full acceleration.

so what should I do? there is obviously an issue here right? should I just live w/ that 9.6/9.7 I've been seeing? I'm not going to claim to be any more than an enthusiastic novice when it comes to these issues but I definitley think I should do something.

I do have a question un related to a/f as well.

Concerning my blow off valve; i didn't know what it was set to at first so I unscrewed the screw all the way and listened to what it sounded like after letting off the thr, and it chattered or went shu shu shu,- crazy compressor surge. So then I tightened it all the way and it will only chatter a small amount in 2nd if I let off completely at 6k or shift down to second at 50+. I just want to make sure its operating properly, does that sound right?

You need to deal with the AF mix 9.6 is in my opinion way to low and I would be concerned about cylinder wash. if the injectors say 310 on them then they should be 310 CC injectors what led you to think they were 550's?.

Different BOV's sound differently a lot of thme make the SH sh sh sh sound and that is noirmal operations. If I remember correctly compressor surge occurs when the car is under boost not off boost.

I was originally told that they were 550's (local shop)
I thought compressor surge hapened when you let off the thr, and the sc is still spinning but the air hits the impeller on the way back to the sc? could be wrong.
nice quote by the way morris, are you a vet? I will be when I get out, hope I have some better stories in this next four than this last four-lame so far.

Well I am not positive about the surge, I cou8ld be wrong. I do know that a lot of BOV's make the sound you referred to as a normal part of operating.

The injectors is a question mark, if they are 310's I wouldnt expect you to be able to run that rich with 12psi of boost based upon my experience. Meaning pulling the max fuel on the SAFC and still seeing 9's. I supppose they could have doen something with the injectors internally or pieced somethign together. Based upon my exsperience RC injectors are normally what they are lableled. If you wanted you could send them out to be flow tested just to put the question to bed once and for all.

Yup I am a subvet from fast attacks, where I come from we have a phrase "boring is safe" I wish I had fewer stories to tell to be honest with you.

yeah i can't figure it out, if they are 310's and flowing as much as possible they shouldn't be able to produce 9.6's.

I tested my SAFC @ lunch just idling and adding/ pulling back fuel at 1000, and it seemed fine.

Fast attack? guess that says it all about my behind the scenes career (contracting), big A$$ bonus though, 7 multiplier, if you remember your bonus listings its the highest given, and contracting is the highest right now, all the way to 20 yrs.

make sure that the throttle position appears to be reading correctly as well, I had an issue once where the SAFC wasnt seeing the change in throttle position, even though I doubt that is your problem.

I never did too much looking into reenlistment bounuses, 6 years on a XX%%X%X% submarine was more than enough for me. Reenlistment was a split second thought and passed quicker than that.

Funny thing though if the money was right even close to right I would be back on a boat or humping through Afghanistan today. Life is a lot simpler in the millitary and that has a certain appeal to me.

Okay first things first for your problem, I will assume that your SAFC is set up correctly and that you have good transition points and that your high and low settings are dialed in correctly.
Next step is to verify what your injectors are really flowing, if it is 310 then we have one next step if it is 550 then it is another.

If 310 then maybe you arent boosting as high as your guage is telling you and that is what is giving you such a rich reading.

If it is 550 then swap out your injectors.

I hope the gauge is telling me the right amount of boost, w/ the key off its @ -20 ish, at idle -16ish-18 ish

what do you suggest for the high and low throttle setting? (fairly certain the throttle sensor for the SAFC is fine) I got it at 20 low and 80 high, I’ve tried 50-99 on the high and didn't mess w/ the low, its currently at 60.

my points for high and low are 1,2,2.5,3,4,5, and 6k rpm's
on low thr, its set 12-15% 1-2K, -17% @-2.5, -25 @3k and -30-35 for 4,5 and 6k
on high thr, it’s at -20% for 1 and 2k, -25% @ 2.5k, -35% @ 3k, -40% @4k, -45% @5k and -50% at 6k

don't know what dec air is off the top of my head or what it stands for

car type is 4 w/ the arrow pointing up (as the manual says)
sensor type is hotwire ( car won't run right on any other type)

that's what I remember off top but I can take screen shots later.

I re-enlisted for two reasons,

1. I waited till they gave me an assignment (wouldn't re-up w/out one). I've been in the middle of nowhere TX for four years (TX sucks, so much pride and so little reason for it, what, four cities and NOTHING else? they lost the Alamo back in the day and brag about it? I don't get it), I don't care if I offend anyone on that. since living here I have much California state pride!!!! I will definitely deny ever having been here. before I joined my friends kept saying don't do it they'll send you to IRAQ, well, I've been on volunteer status for anything, anything including IRAQ, that would get me out of this ***** hole of a state, county and city (san angelo-I know.... where?). there's better parts of TX but even they don't hold a candle to the worst parts of CALI. the MAIN reason I say this is cause in cali I can make a decision to go just about anywhere (within reason, next couple cities over etc.) at any time, from the snow to the beach, in TX, everywhere is at least a day trip that requires a plan, I feel robbed whenever I mak a journey here, except for when I go get stuff done to my car at jeff's LOL, PLANO FTW. one thing I will say good about tx though is the music, its decent out hear I won't lie, nice beats, pretty good artists, not quite as imaginative or different as in CALI but still good, Z-RO, Tre, Chalie boy, devin etc.

2. that fat a$$ bonus, cause I'm Greedy, 50G's+ so I chose to take the risk of another *****y assignment, but since I'm going overseas that's not a concern, Pardon the rant texans, but it sucks hear and you know it, 3/4hours between four cities is equal to risking life limb and incredible boredom to get slapped in the face. one more thing, texas is the only sate as a whole that might attempt to secede, but CALIFORNIA is the ONLY state that could pull it off, housing is cheap here for a reason, location, location, location sux.

that's a lot of boost for a high compression STOCK motor I bet that was fun. What kind of wideband are you using? AEM has a delay I've noticed on my turbo Silverado.

hey how many lbs of boost were you at when you made that 394 speedaddic? (I'm trying to gestimate since i definitley won't be able to get to a dyno any time soon)

I'm using the zeitronix wideband, seems to work fine.
last night I was messing w/ the hi/ lo thr settings on the SAFC and something seemed off, I would change the lo thr settings +or- fuel and it would have an effect, there was a few second delay once the changes are made but it obviously worked. The high thr was a different story, It seemed as though it did nothing, I set everything on the high thr to 0 and then pulled back all the way and there was no difference in my A/F ratios. Does anyone know why this would be? or how to fix?

got yet another question, I have a blv valve (not installed). I bought it planned to install it so I could be certain I wasn't making more than 10Lbs. then i was told by several different folks that I shouldn't need it cause I wouldn't be making that much boost, so Its been sitting, now I'm making 10+ in 100 degree weather. This morning it made 10.5 @ like 5k and I let off. So now i'm thinking I should get it welded on, the question is where? Right now my BOV is like 1.5-2 feet from my SC before the intercooler, should it be mounted between the sc and the BOV? or after the intercooler and before the MAF?

The reason why I say to take it safe is because the GS400 v8 motor costs a pretty penny if you do manage to kill the engine. I think they are around $2k or more range. I experiment all the time on the 6cyl 2JZ-GE because these motors can be had for $500 or less if you find a good deal lol. As for the BLV, check the manual it came with or look online to see where to properly mount it. For the AFR, as I said the SAFC can only do so much to modify the signal. Once the stock ECU senses that the MAF signal is too far out of whack, the ecu will start to do it's own thing and ignore your SAFC inputs. The SAFC is very limited in what it can do on the GS. In older cars, yes you could control pretty accurately with the SAFC because the older ECU's had a lot less failsafe logic. On the GS, the reason it's so hard for many people to tune these cars is because you have to tune around the failsafes and learning logic on the stock ecu OR get a standalone and ignore the stock ECU alltogether lol. IMO, the SAFC just isn't up to the task of doing that job.

If you really want to have the car dailed in, you really only have 2 options at this point if you want to solve the problem. Either get a better piggyback(FIC or emanage ult) or a standalone. Neither is going to be a cheap option, but it will help get everything in check and run at maximum efficiency.

thanks jeff, I've figured this for the most part, I'm not going to have enough time to get back up to dfw so I will have to diy that install, I will probably go w/ the AEM, the only thing I'm worried about is the wiring, will the AEM require different wires to be cut/ splced/ soldered than the SAFC? I'm not worried about the soldering (RC car days), I just don't want to mess anything up, might have to give boomslang a call just to be safe.

The high throttle setting will only show changes to the AF once your throttle position is over the high threshold setting, well actually it starts to take effect once you are over the low threshold setting, but once you are over the high setting it is all about the high settings and the low ones are ignored. In between the high and low setting the SAFC averages the fuel settings for the high and low maps. I think my settings are currently at 20 low and 75 on the high but yours seem okay.

The boost gage should read 0 when the engine is off, I think you said yours was at -20

The blow off valve is not designed to limit boost you need a boost controller for that but it shouldnt matter either way since you are using a supercharger and not a turbo. The Supercharger is set to a single boost level by the pulley selection and it cannot go over that predefined boost level.
