No disrespect to Jeff and if anyone can do it I would believe him but I have heard about quite a few so called built OEM trannys that just couldnt handel the stress of boost. In fact I am trying to think of one that has and I can't. There is a company I think in NJ that is supposed to have built trannys for the lexus racing team, I cant remember the anme right now their tranny was 2800$. If you really want to get carried away you may have to consider teh TH400 but then that brings another can of worms into play, heat rpm fabrication etc etc.

Ross makes pistons but there is debate about how strong the ring lands are also you have to be sure they send you the ones with the valve reliefs cut in. they are notoriousl for sending earlier 1uz pistons with out valve releifs.

You can also pauter or Argo for rods. Frankly if you have your mind set on this you need to head over to lextreme and look into there rod and pistons sets. It would almost be a one stoip shop for the rotating assembly.

But be sure that you get the engine managmenet and tranny nailed down before you spend a dime. What ever they say the build will cost double it.

I had heard of people trying AEMS but I havent actually seen one that works 100% with AC, windows door locks, dash etc. Not saying it couldnt be done but just that I havent heard of much real world success with the GS400. Also dont let someone tell you thyat it works with the SC400 so it should work with the GS , totally different systems.

Are you talking about Level 10? They are located in NJ (I believe) and do great tranny work on our cars.

Is the trans company IPT? They are also located in New Jersey. I have a built tranny from them, so far so good. We'll see how it holds up.

IPT and Level 10 are the only two companies I would bother to get an OEM built GS400 tranny from. I wouldnt even entertain the idea of taking one at half price from somebody else that says they ccan do it. I think both companies are selling them right around 3K last time I talked to them.

Learned my lesson the hard way, pay more, pay once.

**update** (Thanks to Jefftsai) went to dallas this weekend/ got edfc/ zeitronix wideband boost/o2 sensor/ egt installed and my shift solenoid fixed as well. the car feels much quicker from a stop, now I need a new pulley setup so i can take the stock internals as far as possible. I also talked to they guy(s) at lextreme and will be getting the rods/ pistons set from them. they said it would take 5 weeks (I don't have that much time but hopefully they will ship overseas or i can find a set somewhere else)

And how will you know when you have taken the stock internals as far as they can go? Contact Mahdavi motorosports in LIlburn GA they had a set of forged pistons collecting dust not too long ago. They were supposed to be for my last motor build they may still have them.

No Mahdavi is not a sponsor just what used to be my local shop. I wouldnt push more than 8 psi on stock internals and the transmission will probably not last long much past 8psi either in my experience

Morris,
I don't think I ever had a chance to post on any of your previous threads over the years about all the trials and tribulations you went through to get more power out of the RMM SC, before you switched to a turbo. With all the issues you had, it put me on the edge for many years if I would ever want to SC my car.

Thanks to a lot of your info on lessons learned. etc, I was able to put together a reliable set up. I've been driving trouble free for 3 years running, so I just wanted to say thanks.

Moving forward, I am finally in process to up the HP a tad more.
In a lot of old thread discussions, I think there has been confusion in how boost was reported. I'm running the 2.87 pulley and measured barely at 6psi @ 397HP .

So with your last comment on an 8psi "limit", is that boost based on actual "measured" boost or are you basing it on the pulley size and the "reported" boost level for that size?

I am aware of the tranny and internal limitations so I just want to make sure I'm not too close to the limit.

RMM thank you for the kind words and your very welcome.

Well boost is not really the best term to use for what we are talking about, different cars will make differrent HP with different boost settings and pulleys. I dont remember exaclty but I am pretty sure that I was north of 6psi with the 2.87 pulley and making about the same HP you quoted above. I think I had 5-7 psi with the stock 3.23 pulley but that was a long time ago, so my memory could be faulty. Different things can cause this, one of us might have a more or less obstructed intake or exhaust system or while it is doubtful in your case pulley slip also plays a role when different cars with similar setups see different boost levels.

With respect to the tranny, I draw the line approaching 400hp, I have been through 2 trannys one built and one stock and they both self destructied just under 400hp over time, but I also drove the snot out of my car and didnt baby, it, so individual mileage may vary based upon how one drives their individual car.

Just to be clear I was talking about boost levels as seen on a boost guage.

Brenton, good to see that you made it home safe on that tire.

Morris, my personal transmission has held up at around 700whp+ on my car, but then again I have a 2JZ and power delivery is different than a 1UZ. I have had about 30-40 hard passes on the drag strip, proabably 100+ hard pulls on the street/highway, and a few road trips on my transmission with around 30psi of boost before it needed a rebuild. I don't exactly baby my car either lol. I would think that a transmission built with a similar configuration to mine should be able to hold at least 450-500hp on a 1UZ. I have upgraded the 2-3 sprag, added more clutch packs, modified the VB & increased pressure, and had the all the transmission internal parts cryo treated.

Just as you said, the life of the transmission really depends on the owner. I can go through a set of clutch packs in half a year, but for someone else it might last 5yrs+ before needing a rebuild.
