Default F-Sport Intake Installed, but....

... I never disconnected the battery.

Does that matter? What's the purpose of doing that anyway?

I think its to reset the ECU so it adjust to the intake. I think if you don't do it it'll just take longer to adjust.

You dont need to do it. Its not necessary. Just go WOT when you first install it and the ECU should get the message.

Well thats what I did.

ECU adjust the difference in air intake after the intake installation. From what I was recommended, after installation leave the vehicle on idle for 5-10mins so ECU could learn the difference and adjust. I think you could still do it. Just unplug the battery and leave it unplug for 20mins atleast.

It should be fine by now if you drove the car or even let it idle for a little bit. Shouldn't matter how long you unplug the battery for if you do choose to do that instead.

I took it out and drove it for an hour... should be ok then.

BTW, there's DEFINITELY an increase in power at higher speeds, not so much on acceleration from a stop...

I never disconnected the battery either. I believe the ECU eventually got the "message" and knew hat was up.

The f-sport tube attaches -after- the MAF.

What exactly is it "learning" about a part added past the sensor?

(and I didn't disconnect either- works fine)

Right, the MAF needs to learn that there is now more air coming in, Air - Intake - MAF - Intake Manifold... am i wrong?

Just talked to a buddy who works at Metro Lexus here in Cleveland, he confirmed that the battery does not need to be disconnected but is recommended. Even if you disconnect the battery without an intake, connect it, and go for a 'spirited' drive, your car will feel faster as a result.

Except there isn't any more air coming in. And the engine already can pull more air than it's capable of using with the stock intake.

Air box-> MAF-> F-sport tube-> Throttle body.

The MAF comes -before- the F-sport tube. The amount of air coming in is measured before it hits the F-sport tube. (or the Joe Z tube, or whatever you have there)

and even if it DID work the opposite way, it already would -know- how much "more" air was coming in, since that's sort of the point of the MAF.

They 'recommend' you disconnect it for 2 reasons:

1) To avoid you needing a new MAF if you do something really really goofy electrically.

2) Because, as noted, the car will immediately "feel" faster if you disconnect your battery for a bit, even if you change nothing else... so you'll feel more justified in having dropped the $ on your intake since this placebo makes you think the intake did that :P
