Anyone here with an after market exhaust for their 2IS notices that their car has to warm up before the exhaust sound really kicks in right?
Well, have you noticed when the infiniti or nissans start up, you hear the exhaust tone immediately?
Why is this? Stock headers on their cars are tuned for it or what?
I want my car to have that exhaust tone the second I start my car. I suppose I could just run a straight pipe, but that's not what the infiniti and nissan does.
Just curious to see if anyone knows exactly what it is.
Sorry but this is kind of pointless. Why does sound matter right off the bat? It does nothing for performance or looks. If that was the case you should've went with Infiniti/Nissan
I'm not too sure exactly what the OP means but I will let you have my 2 cents for the record.
My car with headers and tanbe sound means-as-hell upon first startup. It is really loud with the idle up high. Also these direct injection cars run in stratified charge mode until the engine is warm. So the A/F mixture is lean 16:1. This may explain why you don't like the sound at first.
Once warm, the engine is runing in a more normal (Stioch) mode at 14.7:1 A/F ratio. This will make a different exhaust sound/tone.
It depends on what you think sounds cool though.......

Not everything has to be performance or looks, I got the exhaust for sound.... lol I just thought for paying like what, $1500 for the HKS addition that it would be kick *** off a cold start, guess not. So I wanted to know why.
Gaugster what headers do you have and how much were they?
everything for this car is SOUND the marginal gains that anyone gets its down to the driver I heard John's car (Gaugster) in person and it does sound good!
