Welcome to CL but please use search, this has been covered many times.

I am also a fan of Amsoil! I believe the GS takes anywhere from 12-15 quarts for a FULL flush.

This is moved here and here is the sticky about Tranny coolers.

Default Trans Oil: Penzoil Multi-Vehicle ATF- Any advice?

Hello,

Just got my trans Oil changed. Before I had it done, I double checked with my mechanic and asked if he had Toyota ATF Type I-IV and said yes. I pick my car up and noticed on the paperwork that it was Penzoil Multi-Vehicle ATF instead! I freaked! My guy told me and even showed me the quart (which was this additive for this penzoil and said it meets Toyota's standards). Any advice? Should I take it back and get the Toyota or is it ok?

Thanks!

dallas...has your transmission fluid been changed regularly by the previous owner? If not, and if your trans has more than 100K on it, i would not touch it, it could do more damage in the long run...

it's probably ok, but I'd still be pissed if I was told they were using toyota fluid and they didn't. I personally only use toyota t-4, but other members use aftermarket stuff successfully.

What kind of issues? Early upshift on a gs300? Clunking into low gear? I hope so! My GS300 is flashing a ect light and the gear changes are all screwy?
I don't think at the last service they used type IV?

I'm praying a drain and refill will fix my problems? Should I do filter and pan gasket as well? Or will the type IV and an ecu reset be enough?

Cheers

So is it 12.5 quarts for a full flush on a GS300? Looking at having a tranny flush soon and would like to know.

Thanks

Would like to know too.. i know my SC400.. drain and fill = 2 bottles.

also how would you convert over to Amsoil?? do you just do the usual Drain + Fill but with amsoil? or you MUST do a complete flush??

imma stick with T4 for a bit since i have a few quarts left over but after that i might be looking into amsoil =p

whats the price difference btw?

Only Toyota ATF Type IV. Drain and refill is 2 quartz. Change every year. Cheaper than Amsoil.

I just ordered 14 qts of Amsoil so that I could do a full flush on the system. I know I ordered a little more than what is necessary because I couldn't get a straight answer on how much was needed for a 2003 GS 300. I read 12, 12.5, and 13 quarts from varying people. Does anyone actually know how much?

I had mine flushed wih Amsoil from my local ClubLexus approved Vendor. They used 12 quarts, especially if you are switching over to synthetic.

Note: a friend who did his first flush at 90k said his shop used up 20 quarts, cuz the oil continued to come out black. So I guess the answer to your question could be " It depends" but atleast 12.

I couldn't believe the difference I felt. It shifted very smoothly and even e-shift was better.

FWIW, my service advisor said it requires 12 quarts.

Next step...can you put the Amsoil Tranny fuild in for power steering fluid? If so, how much does it require for a flush?
