Default buying a gs need help

I'm buying a gs 98+ when I get back from Iraq this fall. I can't decide between the I6 or the v8 model. I am a Toyota cert. tech. and looking to build a 12 sec or less haha family car. Can a gs400-30 do this(nitrous ok)? I just want the most cost efficient and I am not above a motor swap. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Both cars can do it.. The question is how familiar are you with installing forced induction on n/a motors? How much do you want to spend?

The 4 will maybe be in the high 12's with exhaust, headers, intake, air/fuel controller, torque converter, 3.76LSD rear end, and a 125 shot of nitrous. That's the cheap route--there's also twin turbo, turbo, or supercharger possibilies, none of which are in the form of an inexpensive bolt-on kit.

The 3 has arguably more potential, but you've got a little more work to do starting out ~70hp leaner. But, parts are readily available, and there's a lot of support both here and on Club NA I believe.

I'm in the same boat--family guy wanting a fast family car. Gas mileage suffers only a couple points when moving to the 4, so that's negligable. Everyone on the board will chime in with their opinion, but it's really a matter of making what you want work. Which tickles your pickle more, the V8 rumble and low end torque, or turbo spool/scream and and blow-off valve ppssssssshshhhhhhh?

I would say just put a turbo kit on the I6 if you don't want to deal with a motor swap. You could probably be in that range on pump gas for around 3k done nicely. You can spend more or less depending on the quality of parts you want to use...I would say a stock GS3 you could have done NICELY for 5k, that would be for the turbo kit, fmic, safc, wideband ect...

I was in the same boat. A year ago I had a 98GS400, I was tinkering with the idea of doing a 100-150 shot on it, but figured I would be happier in the end with a turbo 300, so I sold the 400 and got my 300. Either way will be fun though that is for sure!

na-t didn't really have anything other than dave-h or xs power. i was hoping for a boostlogic or turbonetics(discontinued i believe) or a bigger name with more r&d behind it and fuel management.

Swift Racing Technology in Maryland makes a very nice turbo kit for the GS300/IS300, check it out.
