I have considered using unorthodox pulleys in several of my cars in the past. As I am not a mechanic, I rely on the expert advise of my Japanese Master Mechanic that I've known for 15 years. And just for arguments sake, he builds race cars for fun when not working. He told me essentially that light weight non-dampened pulleys are a bad idea for all the reasons mentioned previously by lobuxracer. My mechanic also mentioned that if the OEM put a harmonic damper on the engine, it was done after considerable engineering testing, and reviews determined that it was necessary and appropriate. Just my 0.02
