Wink Vb Upgrade Installed My Opinion!

I went to the transmission shop today and had my VB upgrade installed! Sorry no pics.....forgot my camera! Here's my observations:

-Car shifts MUCH harder and quicker!

-shifts about the same into 2nd

-shifts really hard into 3rd, will break the tires loose around 4K rpms on wet roads around 45mph! this shift is pretty jarring! will take the most getting use to......shifts really hard even in low rpms!

-shifts hard into 4th, but not as hard as 3rd

-shifts hard into 5th, but not as hard as 4th(my favorite shift!) if they all could shift this way I would be VERY happy! the shift is quick but not jarring!

Daily driveability: the shift into 3rd is going to take some getting use to. All around I would say it's not for the light hearted! If you like the really smooth shifts of our cars stock DO not do this mod! As far as speed goes........we will see very soon at the SELOC drag day coming up on March 2nd! I will post times with mods! Hopefully I can get my headers installed before then!

I wouldn't doubt if you're able to shave off 0.3-0.4 off your ET with this mod. One major reason why we aren't as quick as the IS350/GS350 is because of our transmission. Ours simply shifts sloooowww

i had a VB before. the shift into 3rd felt like the tranny was going bad because it just jammed it into gear. i always had to tell people riding in my car "its normal, its just a upgraded tranny". but i loved how responsive the shifts are, makes the car a lot sportier. did you change out the 3 springs with 3 rods?

I had a shift kit in my LS400 and I hated it. Shift hard and made me spilled my coffee. Unless you do alot of racing, I personally dont recommend this upgrade. It ruin your luxury and smooth ride.

good opinion. we do valve body upgrades for alot of cars, we exclusively do 350z and g35 vavle body upgrades, on those it shifts like stock when u are not on it, but when u get on it, you can def. feel the positive shifts.

I just got my transmission race built. I love how it shifts. When under less loads the car shifts pretty smooth. Not exactly factory but it's not jarring either. But once you get on the gas, the shifts become pretty abrupt. Keep in mind mine wasn't just a valve body upgrade. It's a whole upgrade package. VB upgrade, machine/mod vb, replace all consumables(seals, filter, etc), install better clutchpacks, machine out the clutchpack housing to fit more clutchpacks for more grip and less slip, and upgrade the sprags to heavy duty ones. They told me it should hold 600-600rwhp all day with no problems. They have a customer running close to 750whp on this same trans!

All of my gears shift consistantly. I guess it's because they modify the actual valve body instead of just installing new springs or rods. Every gear shifts nice and crisp.

Sounds like you got a nice unit! I bet it cost a pretty penny!

my mod was an upgraded vb(whole thing moded) and new rods for the actuators, removed the springs! does anyone know the scematics(sp?) of our vavle bodies......my trans place is really good and I would like to speed up the shift from 1st to 2nd and ease off the 2nd to 3rd and they said they can do it if i get them the scematics of the vb

I have been thinking about doing this. . . Where did you get your valve bodies adjusted at?

I have a spare used tranny sitting in my garage with an upgraded vb already installed. I am tempted to swap trannys just to feel what it's like, but now I think I'll just wait.
