I want to go with a 10" setup in the rear come this Spring and want to put a good sticky tire in the rear. Anyone with any advice for me? Right now I am just spinning from a launch on both my stock 16's and my 19's <---bad for racing from a dig.
Any drag radial should work good for launching with the power you have. I think the only company that makes a drag radial that would fit the skinny 16" oem wheels, is Nitto. However; I could be wrong because it's been a while since I have looked for drag radials. For a 10" width, look at the Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial Drag Tires. They have a big selctions for most wheel widths and diameters.
Thanks for the reply. I'm kind of looking for a setup that is NOT drag. I still want them to be a good street tire with good tread wear. Not really sure what size tires are good for 10" wide wheels...275,285,295??? I really don't want to do any fender modifications either.
good street tire and treadwear, i believe the tread ratings should top 300. i think my toyo t1r's are 280 (?) and that's just decent. yes, i'm on 10's in rear too (275's). but then again, i'm just taste-testing tires now. so far, they're not too bad (i'd buy them again-but will probably taste-test another mfr after, if i dont sell my wheels).

You are saying your 16s are loosing traction and your 19s are bad from a dig, so which wheels are you looking tires for?
GS Fonzy - I lose traction with BOTH setups, 16" (Winter) and 19" (Spring, Summer, Fall). My 19's tires are 245/45/19...they are 8.5" wheels all around.
4ntvings - I want to go with a staggered setup (10" in the rear) because ever since my 3K PI TC and the Supra LSD install I was never able to get a good launch without a good amount of wheel spin from the beginning. Now that the tires are a little more worn out I spin even easier. Even if I wanted to I could not race from a dig because I simply nail it and my rear spins mad and starts to kick out and this is on bone dry pavement (w/traction control off)! No point in leaving traction on because that will also defeat the purpose of quick acceleration. I need more traction!
BTW, all this is done with heavy 1 piece 19" wheels...what happens when I want to buy a nice set of lightweight 3 piece wheels down the road? Then I will really have traction issues!

I have had good luck with BFGoodrich tires in the past. I have had both Drag radials and KDW's in 315/40R17 on my mustang. I have KDW's all around on the GS now and love them.
I simply would not suggest drag tires for daily driving at all. From the information gathered in some of your posts, it seems you live in cold weather also. Therefore, drag radials + Cold weather = Accident wating to happen. Now, I see that you want to run a 10" rear wheel. Depending on your offsets, anything above a +42 you're safe to run a 275 size without any fender mods. If you want to step up to a 285, then you're looking into cutting and modding the fenders. As for tire brand that has good all around comfort and grip, consider the Yokohama Advan Sport, Pirelli PZero Rosso, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2, or the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position. All of these tires I've owned in the past and have great results using them. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase them again. Of course, they do cost a pretty hefty price.
I ran drag radials year round in my mustang. Even in minor snow with drag radials on the Mustang it was WAY better than the GS in the snow with regular tires. I would never drive a GS in bad weather with drag radials. Dry weather you would be fine though.
Thanks for all the replies guys!!! Very Helpful. Alexus300, so you are saying that it is impossible to run 285's (on 19" wheels) in the rear and NOT have to do fender mods? I want to put a nice fat tire back there but without any fender rolling, cutting etc. If so, I guess I'm just going to go with 275's. Anyone have some good pics of 275's on 10"+ wide wheels???

You can definately run 285's in the rear but this all depends on the offsets of the wheel and the sidewall shape of the tires. Some tires have rounder sidewalls which will kind of cave into the wheels while some have flatter sidewall. Do you by any chance know what the offsets is for your rear wheel? I'm currently running a 285-30-20 Yokohama S.Drive on my 10" Iforged rear with a little shaving. But it's because I had the wheels built for a super flush look. I would recomend running a 275/30 rear if you don't want to do any fender mod.
Are you really running a 245/45/19 How does that even fit
Learn to launch
1. It fits fine...what do you mean? It's definitely NOT 235's because that's what they tried to first sell me with these wheels but that profile was only about 1"!!! So I opted to have a little thicker of a tire...still definitely low-pro...maybe 1.5" - 2" of sidewall height. I just know the middle # is 45.
2. I know, I am going to need to. Question...Isn't it bad though for your tranny to mash the pedal and as soon as you feel wheel spin let off? I did this a couple of times and it just seemed like it messed with the shifting to0 much...it didn't feel like it was good for it. The car was WOT ready to shift to the next gear and right before (or simultaneously) I let of the gas, re-gain traction and hit it again...that can't be good. I feel like if I *****foot it off the line then the PI TC doesn't seem to work fully as it should.
