Default Internal and a few exhaust part pics

IS250 left side exhuast manifold

The left side exhaust ports. They are designed restricted on purpose. The only reason I can't think of why it maybe this way is for velocity scavenge.

The rest are of a 350 engine

39mm round port on exhaust side instead of restricted oval port of the 250

The manifold gasket is a lot larger and the port is on center with it so if you were to make a custom set of manifolds for it the flange could be created using the center point of the gasket ports.

The wierd shaped pocket you see on the piston is for the direct injection system. The pocket is the path the fuel takes during direct injection as it travels to the spark plug. It has been designed this way. The spark plug is also uniquely designed and it is extended into the combustion chamber by about 14mm more than the standard 2GR-FE from the ES350 and RX350. This is one of the methods Lexus engineering used to have the engine make more power.

I can bet money that if the spark plug were to be replaced with a non-OEM plug you will have power loss if you can even get the engine to run properly.

The UR-FSE series engines in the LS/GS460 and the LS600h and IS-F will have almost identical internal combustion designs as these images.

Hope you enjoy them

Just out of curiosity, why was this motor pulled apart so soon?

The 250's transmission had a ECT-code with a shift valve malfunction. Lexus technical instructed us to remove install a new tranny with torque converter. They didn't want the transmission drained or even line pressure checked. They wanted to take apart the transmission and inspect for wear. The vehicle has 10k miles and we had never encountered any problems in this area. They simply instructed us to install a new tranny. Only problem is , installing a new tranny in the new ISx50 involves removal of the left side manifold and starter and a little plastic cover to get access to the torque converter's bolts. I took those pictures after the left manifold was off.

The 350 engine had a burnt valve. We suspected the gasoline was contaminated with E85 by about 50%. We thought the customer had filled up the car with half E85, realized the gas selection and stopped and refilled with the correct gasoline. E85 is metered differently and is consumed more (AFR) compared to the normal gasoline and the ecu was unable to deliver the proper amount of fuel. Fortunately the vehicle didn't run long enough to damage the catalytic converters. We ended up installing a new intake valve on the #6 cylinder and redo the 3-angle on that seat with a new seal. Everything was fine after a drain and refill. The datalist and freeze frame data were showing over 35% long and short term trim and the vehicle was still running lean. It was obviously in the gas.

Were the combustion chamber shots pre or post clean up? The piston crowns don't look like the squish was all that tight, but the lack of carbon in the combustion chambers looks like it was working beautifully. What's the scoop?

Great pictures! I think this is a first look for many of us of the internals.

It actually has some good squish design and clearance. The squish is going to be less than that of a non-direct injection since the air travel is contoured differently. The engine that was apart only had 15k miles on it and thats why it was so clean.

Guys these engines are fairly complex to work on and so are the electronics. I don't see a boosted application making a lot of power anytime soon. The aftermarket electronics out there currently can't work anything in this car properly.

Wicked pics.

Funny that there is no special design underneath the valves. Some of the intake valves has a protrusion with the letters 2 G. Then you look at the other set and one has 2 G but the other has a small hollow? You would think this would also affect the gases in the chamber. Guess not enough.

Burn't valve. Whats the heat range? Wouldn't the ECU catch the lean prolbem before it burn't a valve? Are these stainless valves? Thats kind'a strange how it burn't an intake valve. Not exhaust. Are they made from diff. materals?
