Car Overheated - Any Ideas???
Ok guys here's the deal. I went to the track yesterday and on one of my runs the car didn't necessarily overheat but, it got hot enough to the point it blew the radiator hose off the radiator clamp and all. I was going down the back stretch and steam started spewing coming from the driver side near the head lamp. Here are the recent events and facts:
This is what I came up with, considering that I just had the servicing done I think something wasn't done correctly. Maybe the pressure clamp on the hose wasn't fastened properly. Since that was the first time I ever saw that kind of coolant, maybe it was an inferior coolant and it couldn't keep the temperature down and therefore, the pressure built up and blew off the hose.
I'm wondering if this could have caused this to happen and if not, what?Anyone have any ideas?
- I got my headers installed a couple days before the track event.
- I noticed that the coolant was reddish in color.
- I ran the car at this track before earlier this year - no issues.
- The car never had a heating issue before.
- The temp gauge never hit the 'H' or red mark, it was still in the black range.
- I recently got my 90K servicing done and they changed the coolant and water pump.
- After I put in some anti-freeze (green in color) with more water ran it on the track again and temp stayed consistance in the middle but started rising after 3 or 4 laps.
- On the way home temo was rock solid at the middle mark.

We have special coolant on our cars...and its suppoesd to be red!
It's called toyota red...we cant put hte regular stuff in it...
so I think the coolant is ok..
id have to agree with fonzy and think it mights jus been the loose clamp...
do update though! :-)

Eric, my car overheated a couple months ago. I thought I was in big trouble but it was the radiator cap not on tightly. Fluid went all over, it leaked out. I refilled and checked the caps (I actually started a thread here on CL, they are the ones that told me!!)
Just make sure everything is on tight.

man how did you miss my post: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=309622 here it is. The handling was pretty good but not as good with the Diazen springs.
I have to say though, by the end of the day I had a pretty good feel for them and I was able to make them work really well in the corners and especially the banked turns. I have to say, if I could do it all over again, I would still get the Tanabe NF's and the KYB's. They work good ttogether performance wise too.

Why wouldn't coolant drain out the overflow tube if it got too hot? Kind of sounds like just the hose clamp needed to be tighter.
Glad I get the coolant service done annually at the dealer. I wouldn't have thought there was a special Toyolex coolant we had to use.
Lexizm, just curious, has the water pump ever been changed? I elected to do mine at 90k with the timing belt.
