Default Droning??

I've seen a lot of talk about certain exhaust systems having a lot of drone noise at highway speed or whatever. What exactly are you talking about? Does that simply mean that it is too loud while at cruising speed?? When in fact you only want it loud at WOT? How would you rate the HKS Hi-power for droning at idle and highway speed? I know they sound great at WOT but I haven't really heard a video at idle speed or cruising speed. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
UB

I see you are new. all i can say is that 99% of every question you are about to ask has been answered and there is a thread on it somewhere. If you need help with search strings let us know.

Thanks, I guess all I was asking is what is droning exactly. I read a ton of threads and didn't really see an exact definition of it just how to fix it. However if I don't know what it is exactly I wouldn't know if I want to fix it or not in the first place lol.

The best way to describe droning: close your mouth and hum lightly. That's similar to exhaust drone, and gets VERY annoying if it occurs right at your typical cruise speed.

good point. I would also say if you know frequency's. it's like a 500hz constant bass note coming thru your car as you drive around normal. Come for a ride in my car and I will show you drone.

I got droning too (see sig). Fortunately I got used to it and discovered a way for me to stop the droning while driving. For me the droning comes in at 2000-3500rpms then just screams on.

I disagree with the definition(s) given here for "drone". Drone is not just a way to describe unwanted exhuast sound while cruising. It is a resonance that occurs under certain conditions that causes the exhaust's sound level to be MUCH higher than at any other time. Unfortunately, the HKS HiPower exhaust has rather excessive drone at the worst possible time ... while cruising (light to medium throttle, moderate to high load, 2K-3K RPMs).
