I'm interested to find out from all the enthusiasts out there about air intake systems. If you were given a choice to either (1) make your own intake or (2) buy one that is for your vehicle, which one would you prefer?
Here are a little more details about each options.
What's the point of the poll? Everyone already has the choice of designing / building their own or buying a bolt-on kit. So far, I don't know of anyone that has decided to do their own. Well, I guess some have chosen to tweak the stock system, myself included.
Well, I want to find out if anyone would build their own intake system knowing that those sections of tubing are available. And most likely would cost less.
I, for one, would just buy one that fits my car because it's more convenient and usually less time consuming. However, I've talked to someone who really likes the fact that it cost less and the satisfaction of building it on their own.
In California, you obviously have to be more careful or keep things hidden. Personally I prefer to make my own intakes, generally out of PVC. I haven't seen anyone either on 2nd gen. IS do a DIY.
i don't plan on modding my car. i bought an IS specifically for that reason. it's just not a car that's meant to be modded imo. but if i were going to put an intake on it, i would get one that's specifically for my car. Lexus cars aren't meant to have fabrication work done lol. a supra with a t78 and cone cone filter stuck on the end is fine, but not on a lexus. unless the lexus has a 2jz in it
DIY is perfect when you want to experiment with different configurations. But the finish look of PVC never compelled me to try it. Not on this type of car. Now if you have access to a machine shop to work with aluminium tubing that is a different story.
