Default Headers...

Someone mentioned in the Aftermarket blah blah blah thread that if we want performance parts, we need to start contacting companies.

What company would be worth contacting to conduct testing on the IS350 and IS250 for headers?

Once that is decided, we can bombard them with e-mails and calls.

ORRRRRRR....

We need to group together and do some testing of our own on the only ones I know that are available... the Megan headers. It doesn't seem like Megan has done any testing and even if they did, would you believe their results?

Come on people!

I used to be a big Honda fanatic, and there are some awesome companys that make bangin headers out there. I think if people are really serious than we can contact on of them. They make race headers. Im all for it.

IMO The SMSP header is the best, with price and performance. I currently have the DTR and its an awesome header. But I dont know if any of these companys will even try to make something. Being they need a test car and everything.

new headers would remove the primary cats, which is illegal. you might find a company to make a couple custom runs but production i don't think so.

how hard is it to make custom headers? also, will the performance improvement be sufficient to warrant changing the primary cats?

Please keep the thread on-topic. Uscharcor's post is enough for everyone to know that they would not be legal if they remove the catalytic converters.

Designing headders is no easy task, its not like cutting off the existing tubes off the flange and welding on a bunch of tubes. Theres alot of physics/scavanging of gases/firing order of pistons(?), look i dont know exactly but i know its alot.

Course if you look at top fuel dragsters you have just 8 pipes and thats it, i would love to have 6 tubes sticking out of my hood

But it also wouldn't be much of a challenge to do better than the stock setup. It's just about as high tech as a '32 V-8 Ford. No equal length, not even a proper collector. It could be a lot better, just not legal anywhere in the US.

Why can't they make a legal aftermarket one with a cat?

For those that don't know me I am the guy that did the header group deal for the GS4xx cars. If there is enough demand... 20 + SERIOUS people we could possibly do it for the IS350s.

Does anyone have PICTURES of the stock manifolds? Please post.

I haven't seen any pics of the stock manifolds. Would pictures from the engine bay work or do you need pics of the whole thing?

Here's how Toyco draws them. There's a lot of room for improvement. There may not be a lot of room to work with in the engine bay though.

jbrady says he has done this before and he was requesting pics. I seriously doubt they would make them based off of pictures.

The mechanic said that when he installed the Megan headers, they were a pain because of how little room he had to work with installing them in the first place.
