I have searched and have only found a few topics on this. There were links to Banana's page but his site or the link is not working. I'm going to dyno my car on Saturday and I wanted to do the coolant bypass before my run to see if there are truly any gains from performing this mod. Does anyone have in-depth instructions of how to acomplish this. I have heard that it's a simple mod. Also, does anyone have any other tips before doing my run...like octane booster, fuel injector cleaner. etc just so that my car is at its full potential...
The idea behind the bypass is to not add heat to the air intake charge. Cars are setup from the factory to cover most situations. Some are in colder environments and the throttle body can ice up. In a warmer area it is not necessary to add the heat to the air. This change makes a little difference on some vehicles and none on others. It depends on whether or not you are going for every last little bit. If you index your spark plugs and gasket match everything, this would be right up your alley. I have done this on some of my vehicles and have not touched it on others. Itall depended on my mood when I was working in that area.

I wonder how many members have done this mod that would be able to shed some light on this subject? Im very interested in seeing if there are any noticeable gains on the dyno.
I think the gain would be so small that it could easily be passed off as margin of error ad repeatability of the dyno. We are only talking a few horsepower at best. Every little bit does help.
I guessing it could be very helpful for us down here in AZ. Its not even up to the normal 110 degree tempature and the under the hood temps are already high. My intake gets so hot I think its going to melt. Like GoFaSSter said, it all depends if you are going for every last little bit. Besides, every little bit adds up, especially with our cars because not every mod that we do will make a significant difference, unless you go FI.
I've seen the write up on this and it does look relatively easy. You just have to make sure you pinch off the hoses so the liquid doesn't come out all over the place. Also, it helps if the car is cold.
BTW - mexlex - go FI.
I want to do it but I want to see someone in AZ do it first... lol
