Default intake q

i know theres no serious hp to be gained from intakes ... but im looking at it also as a fuel economy thing

i want a short ram [we have way too much rain here for me to concider a cold air ... last thing i need is water in my engine]

which has the best fuel economy gain and which has the best hp gain? and whats a happy medium?

on that note: advice?

thx guys

I put a KNN FIPK on mine. I initially ordered an SRT, but it was crap for quality, so I sent it back. I do notice the power and sound, but I think the fuel economy gain is negligible. The companies probably just advertise economy gains to sell more units, but you have to drive like grandma to see it. When I take a long trip, and if I can manage to keep it under 90-100, I get a few more miles out of a tank.

Just make sure you get one thats street legal where you live, or no passing smog tests for you.

As mentioned above, fuel economy gains will probably be negligible. Any gains will probably be erased by you stepping into the throttle more to hear the engine/intake. SRT has the most hp gains but will also be loudest. IMO, JoeZ is a good medium - good hp gains as well as slightly louder growl than stock at WOT.

SRT will gain most due to the R-ecu, but KN, Injen, or AEM will work (don't forget to get a heatshield).

JoeZ is unique since it still utilize the stock air box, but I'm not too sure about gains from it since I didn't do research on it...

I never heard of intakes having real fuel economy gain. There might be but not that huge gain I guess. If there is, I would really be very interested with it. I’ve been using Lexus Cold Air Intake for years and I couldn’t get some way or reason of replacing them aside from if there would be an intake with what is said to advertisements having fuel economy gain. It would be very much helpful if there are people who testify with those commercials, just to prove it really works. I might try if I have spare money for a risk. Unfortunately, it’s out in the budget. But, I guess there are already some who tried but I haven’t heard a real good response regarding the matter.

No they don't. Only thing TRD makes is OEM replacement filter, and that is it.

I think Jackiesh might be a .....

if you're worried about water, i believe AEM makes a bypass that will prevent water from entering the intake pipe... lessee if i can find it:

http://www.aempower.com/ViewCategory.aspx?CategoryID=20

here's a test of the valve: http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/te...r_bypass_valve

I'm not... In fact, I've tried searching about short ram just to know what is it really the intake that has fuel economy gain... I'm new here so I'm trying to compensate.

As far as I know, AEM doens't have any known problems. The only one known for causing the CEL to come on is the INJEN intake ver1 and 2.

My 0.02cents... Get the AEM if the price is good. They all do the same thing, and as long as it comes with the heatshield, your good.

If I were to redo it, I would either get a LMS CAI or cheap used AEM (I wouldn't fill so bad drilling a hole in it....)

IS.net used to sell the black edition, but IDK if they still do. Beside that, try F/S section on IS.net or here.

I might sell mine soon, just got to make my mind up on what i want to do. And find some cheap used intake...
