Default California emissions and S&S headers

Well last week I had to smog my GS400. Last year I added the headers and I'm currently running Carson Tuned Exhaust and K&N filter just FYI. So I go to smog my car and it passed with flying colors. I still have the stock cats also.

I just thought I would share since some people may be wondering if they will California emissions.

I took my car to a Test only site.

Here are the results

at 1880 RPMs 15mph
Measured:
%CO2 15.0
%O2 0.0
HC (PPM) 7
CO% .02
NO (PPM) 271

at 1572 RPMs 25mph
Measured:
%CO2 15.0
%O2 0.0
HC (PPM) 7
CO% .02
NO (PPM) 100

The headers are a worthwhile upgrade and they pass Cali emissions. What more can you ask?

Mine is a SRT intake with Borla CB on my GS300 01. Do you think this one will pass CA emission test or I should bring my OEM intake with me when I move to SoCal in two weeks?

Please advise.

Thanks

Does your SRT intake have the ECU upgrade? If so then I don't think it would pass, since it is not CARB legal. They would look at your engine and fail you on the visual. I would bring your OEM intake to be safe.

Definately put your OEM air box back on. They will fail you on the visual part of the test. Make sure you take out the piggy back SRT race ecu as well. Just disconnect it from the connector and on mine I just jumped the green and the orange wires together. Please make sure you jump whatever wire was completely cut. I believe it is a sensor wire. Not all the wires had to be cut to install the race ecu.

Hey Chris,
I'm supprised they did not fail you for the headers. The S&S headers do not have C.A.R.B. approval. To my supprise, they probably missed it.

passing the emissions wouldn't be a problem. most of these cars even w/ mods are very efficient. It's the visual part u have to worry about. but w/ adequate chatter and elbow rubbing during the test, i've past several times.

Will,

I think after certain wear on the headers the shininess has worn off. So maybe that helped. Funny thing is I just read a magazine and let the guy do his thing. He was happy he saw a carb sticker for my K&N and let me know that he was glad I put it on. After that I guess that was that.

the race ecu adjust the air fuel ratio along with other things. it will most likely make a check light come on with oem intake.

Passed CA smog with the S & S headers as well.

All I ever do is put the stock intake back on.

It doesn't hurt to repeat business at the same shop if they remember you.

My thoughts are that the car will be less suspicious if they have smogged and passed the same car before.

They usually rememeber me just cause they don't see too many modded Lexus and they remember the car.

Depending on the smog place, sometimes they check every little thing only because their lic is on the line because i know as my friend and family members are mechanics and smog mechanics, and i've done smogs as well, but my friends who have alot of mods which are not carb approved, but if it still passes emissions pipe test, and no check engine light with a OBDII, some places will just pass you, others won't.
