THat would be a negative ghost rider. The rods are different which I am pretty sure will requrie different bearings. Also the 98 has VVTI for valve timing and the 93 does not. Heads are different and the pistons are differnt at least the domes.
While remotely possible you would NOT want to do this. You would spend much more money and get much less back than simply locating a correct engine. Correct engines would be from 1998-2000 GS400s, LS400s and SC400s. You may have to swap the oil pan if you get an LS or SC engine but otherwise you are fine.
Another more expesive option would be a 2001+ 4.3 liter 3uzfe engine but that could uncover some incompatibilities with the VVTi or something else.
BTW the 1990-1994 1uzfe engines are rated 250hp but in actuality only make about 230hp. Your GS400 makes 300hp. No contest.

it aint that simple, the GS400ecu controls other things than just the engine. Like the tranny, like the AC like the dashboard etc, etc, If you do use the SC ecu it may not control all the other stuff.
thanks!so bacially i can used the block and head from the sc400 and just used the IM from the GS400 and ecu??
I dont know if the GS400 ecu is going to work with the SC400 block and heads.
THe heads are different on the SC it also does not have VVTI which the GS is expecting. The GS ECU is obd2 and I think the older SC is obd1, which may also create a problem.
What is IM?

Here is the thing. While EVENTUALLY possible to get the early 1uzfe to actually work... the end result will be both EXPENSIVE and reduce the value of your car.
Years ago I did a 5.0 HO swap into a 1987 TBird Turbo Coupe. I bought a wrecked Mustang GT with virtually everything I needed except a harness. Expected total project cost at $2000. $5000 later it was finally reliable. I tell you this because all the trouble you will face is not easily recognizable. Trust me and re-read the first paragraph above.
You should be able to find a 1998-2000 engine for around $3000. SELL the SC parts to offset some expense. You will end up with the RIGHT engine, the RIGHT power, no CRAZY tuning, repair and diagnostic problems, NO extra vehicle depreciation (NOBODY wants a GS400 with an old weak engine and problems). Believe me when I tell you the cost will most likely be LESS than the SC engine swap.
Do what you want but ignore my advice at your peril.

Why would you want a SC400 engine. It would be cheaper if you just rebuild your GS400 engine.
