Default Hollywoods *ULTIMATE* Y-pipe Recipe. w/pics.

So Im going to make the ypipe this week to complete my exhaust so it will be fully operational deathstar.....er something.

I have the S&S headers and a carson tuned catback exhaust. For reference the headers output to 2.5" and the entry of the carson tuned is 2.5" y'ing out into 2x2.5". I do not want to modify my beautiful carson tuned exhaust, so this is what I have planned.

So the plan is to come off the headers install the O2 bungs where the cats were, then install the spark plug misfowlers into the O2 bungs, the install the O2 sensors. Then run the 2 pipes into dynomax's new great product the X-flow mullfer 2x25" inlets. The x-pipe is actually built into into the muffler and the pipe are periforated for maximum flow. This muffler showed only 3hp loss on a 500whp hot rod and dropped the db decently, definately a nice piece of USA inginuity, best muffler out there for V8's as far as least power loss. (PS all mufflers loose HP, open pipe header makes the most power). The muffler then exits to two 2.5" outlets. I will run 2 2.5" pipes into my premade ypipe piece. It's 2x2.5" in, and 3" outlet. Then I will use the univeral header pipe (small pipe) to take the 3" and make a nice flow path to reduce it to 2.5" to then weld the 2.5" flange to meet my carson cat back. The reason I went with that specific ypipe adapter going to the 3" is it will give the exhaust gas room to expand and prepare and slow the gasses a bit for the transition of the opposite y-section from the carson cat back. I am confident this will allow the transitioning to loose the least amount of power possible for this scenerio.

Noice my plan involves no cats. Here are the pics with commentary. Enjoy. This will be my 3rd time designing custom exhaust pieces. I expect a real nice sound from this.

Here is the x-flow.

Here is my parts minus a few strait pipes that I did not bother to include in the picture, those U-bends are mendrel bent FYI.

Sweet, see ya cat converters!

2x2.5" in 3" out yo!

Nice piece! Look at the inernals! Only 35 cad.

Sure I only hope my camera will be do the sounds justice once its done. I was thinking about getting the recording mic for my ipod thinking it may capture the sounds best, I don't know.

P.S. I resized the pictures to a bit smaller so its easier for the forum. And I know I still need to post pictues of my 295 rear tires, I actually took the pictures but the lighting was bad and they sucked so I have to wait to do it after work today.

K. Got half of it done. Other half tonight. The x-flow muffler didnt fit, so it might end up being louder than expected we'll see.

Too long. It would fit if you had a full custom exhaust but I was not planning on cutting my carson up.

Anyways I am dont my y-pipe last wednesday and man it's pretty sweet. It sounds super bad ***! A very unique V8 sound. I tried doing a video clip with my camera but it didnt work out. In same cases is more quiet than fully stock even, at medium cruising and at idle. My car also idles a lot smoother now as well. It does gernerate attention though as it can get a little vocal with my other mods. The intake now seems a tad louder and it seems it breaths easier. The car climbs hills easier too. I hav'nt notice any loss in low end, but an overall gain in the mid and high end. I am throwing the "cat isnt functioning code".
