Default Manual swap Q...

ok obviously im new and hopefully this winter i will be getting a 98-00 GS300, auto will have to do for a little while, but i NEED a manual tranny ive searched a good amount on the manual swap and see that it is feasable. Also that it can be a bit pricey, but im prepared and well aware of that and the work that goes with it..

the only thing i really have question about is the wiring. Im thinking ECU, Tranny and a pumpkin from the MKIV supra would be all i need. i could just splice the ecu's together and that would be it. Now im from the world of older Nissans and wiring is a bit more simple and universal on them. but i may be wrong with the sophistication of a Lexus. if any one could shed some light on my idea it would be really nice.

I am very interested in this too....Just take the 2JZ-GTE 6 spd and put that in but i don't even want to think about the cost of this or how much fabrication is going to have to be done...Let alone all the damn wiring.

wiring shouldn't be too hard, you just cant be afraid. the 2jz supra tranny is like ~$5000 new....but hopefully i can find a used one. now that i think the stock ECU could be reflashed to NA MK4 spec or just use the NA MK4 Ecu.

You can't swap ECU's. It's entirely different pinout, even though the engine is similar. Even if you matched up all the pins, some of the stock stuff wouldn't run correctly. Best bet is to get some kind of aftermarket tranny controller. Possibly the PCS unit, I heard lots of good things about using that with the auto tranny. Maybe it can somehow be programed for the ecu to go with the manual tranny?

yea..im just thinking reflash. my buddy is a toyota mech and i could probably just go in and get it flashed to the NA supra spec...if that would work. and if not, just splice the two ECU's together and run it like that...messy yes, but it works.
