i know this thread is pretty old.... but i have a real quick question...

If the IS3 headers fit on the GS the OBX short runner GS300 headers would fit on the IS3 with no issues, correct?

the reason I ask is because as im sure most of you have seen the IS300 OBX short runner headers are in my honest opinion superbly fugly with their weird **** primary collectors....

the GS ones look to be a slightly better design, i personally dont care about the y-pipe, as long as the header fits on the IS300 than so far my plans are a go....

this would be the outcome: GS300 obx short runners -> IS300 y-pipe -> etc

thanks for any info in advance

just installed headers on my car, they're ebay ones for an is300, they didn't fit that well (had to remove a stud from the block so it would even go on). Just wanted to give some advice for anyone going about installing headers.

Since im from australia, our gs' are RHD and removing the stock headers is very difficult because the steering shaft gets in the way. I had to cut my stock headers in half down the flange so that they were split up into 2 pieces to get them out.

Also just be careful with ebay headers, i'm pretty pissed off that they dont fit properly, not too sure how it'll affect my car in the long run but at the moment my y pipe doesn't line up with the rear end of my exhaust because of the headers, also my o2 sensor doesnt fit where the hole for it on the headers is but thats because i've got a RHD car and the headers weren't designed for RHD gs'.

TL;DR: Headers for RHD gs300's aren't worth the trouble!

Thanks. That's a nice setup. Deciding to keep my GS for a few more years means I;m going to play with it for another year to make it into what I want to drive.

I heard open headers are really hard on engines and ruin them, is this true with the 2J? and is there a way to "pass" or cheat an emissions test with them on?

Default E bay stainless exhaust manifold.

I have just installed this manifold which was designed for a is300 onto my gs300 mark2. The problems are ; the manifold to cylinder head bolt holes need opening out about 1 1/2 mm to fit. the bottom flang is at a slightly different angle, so the gasket that is supplied with the manifold is no good , you have to use the original lexus o rings. the old manifold will not come past the steering coupling , but thats not a hard job to take off and replace. pre cat lambda sensors bolted straight in and the post cat sensor was fitted with an angled spacer, resuting in NO engine management light, one word of caution- dont turn the ignition on when you have the maf and lambda sensors unplugged or you will get an eml on start up and will have to clear the codes.

Just look up o2 simulator or spacer. Literally hundreds available on ebay. All you are doing is extending the downstream o2 out of the exhaust system.
