The rule of thumb of 24" sounds reasonable, but since the factory set up doesn't follow this I assume it's OK.

Thanks for the note of concern though.
Glenn thanks for the idea to add this. I'm going to get me a bung and plug tomorrow so I can have this done before my header install next week. I'm sure want to add a wide band guage. This is a great time to add it since it is not recomended to put the wide band 02 sensor after the cats.
actualy don't both sensors point more upward?

In the installed position the stock O2 is pointing at the 7 o'clock position and the other bung is in the 4 o'clock position.

Yup if you want the sensor before the cats, this is where it's got to go.

Make sure you position it where you see it on my header. You might get close to hitting the steering linkage if the bung is inserted at the wrong angle.

Next time my car is on a rack I'll have to take a pic of the exact location and the clearance.

You could also consider installing it on the passenger side header. I never thought to look on that side.

Glenn from the looks of your header, it does look like it is the pass. header. Looks like there is just enought room to fit your hand down the passeger side and touch the header flang. On the drivers side it is impossible.
From looking from the top of the engine and fealing w/ my hand, seems like there is room to mount the sensor at 9 o'clock, (stock sensor at 7 o'clock) 4'o'clock and 3'oclock w/o hitting any thing.
If the sensor is not to long, maybe it can be mounted at the 9o'clock position on the pass side and it be installed or removed with from the engine bay??

Here is a pic of Pearlpower's header on his SC430 from the passeger side.

I take it back - I did such a good job of "aging" the headers that I did not realize I was staring straight at them. They can easily be seen from the drivers side.

The sensor is rather long, plus I have a feelingthat the sensor tip needs to point down, so atleast an 8 o'clock position might be a better choice.

Now referencing these positions, you are referencing base off of the installed position. The headers when installed are about at a 45 degree angle at the header flange, so our positions will be off if not factoring this is.

Pearlpower installed headers in an SC so I can't say if a GS will be the same. I thought SC430's have more room than a GS?
