How much compression ratio will the 2JZ handle before having detonation problems using 91 octane? I want more power but FI isn't feasible at this moment. I figured changing too a thinner gasket would be beneficial to power.

No matter how much you try, the most your gonna squeeze out of the 2JZGE without going to FI is about 20-50 horsepower. 20 being I/H/E, which is still on the cheap side. 50 being I/H/E, cams, bigger injectors, bigger MAF(or you can eliminate the MAF and go standalone, but why without FI), cams. Everything is gonna cost alot. I dont personally know how much you can get out of the 2JZ, but from what I read on Supra-Forums, its pretty hard to get power. You can try a thinner headgasket, but I wouldnt push the ratio higher than 12:1.
