Fuel System Cleaner
My search didnt really help me find what I was looking for...
My car was recently serviced, and I had the auto shop check why my car may not have passed smog a year or so ago (my car came from Texas, where omissions laws are so strict as here in Calif). The smog place I went passed me, but I want to make sure Im legal (especially in case the same place doesnt pass me next time). The auto shop looked in my engine bay, and pointed out that the previous owner may have had a wet nitrous setup before, and its likely that my engine has traces of nitrous still in it (which he said would cause me to fail the smog).
He mentioned getting a fuel system cleaner, to burn out the traces of nitrous, and I believe he said to use a product could NOS. I see in past threads that people have used this product as a fuel system cleaner, but does anyone know if that product also contains nitrous of any kind? I dont want any more to go into the engine, i want to clean it out. Also, can anyone recommend similar products that might help? Thanks....

I hear the Lucus Oil products work from a few posts on here. http://www.lucasoil.com/products/index.sd
I've done a lot of research on this and the results have pointed me to Chevron Techron fuel system treatment. I used it 2000 miles ago for the first time. They sell it at Autozone, Pepboys, most auto store places. A lot of people on car forums recommended it.
Lucus is very good though. The cheveron stuff really did nothing for me. But becareful about using too much of the gas tank additives. You can ruin the cat. conv. Use it as recommended.

hmm. i wonder if these products actually work?
i use the valvoline max life as i stated before every 3k miles or at every oil change, i don't know if there's a big difference, i can't feel anything noticeable? does anyone know what fuel cleaners do? or if you feel a difference or not?
i know shell v-power claims to have some fuel additives that does the same as fuel cleaners - so i don't know what i'm supposed to expect?

Like I was saying before there has been a ton of research and recommendation on the Chevron Techron stuff. But I used it for the first time 3000 miles ago and didn't notice any difference. So either my engine is pretty clean or the stuff is crap. I have used the Valvoline Syn Power fuel injector cleaner in my Ford Explorer and I could defintely tell a difference right away. I only had like 60k on it but that might have to do with running regular gas instead of having a car where you run premium. Plus a Ford needs all the help it can get.
I only run 93 octane in my GS.
