Benjamin T, did you ever get the car fixed?

I know for my old car (91-95 acura legend), we had problems with our main relay. Sometimes we hear clicks without the engine cranking, other times it would crank, but take awhile to actually run on its own. Battery, alternator, starter, etc are all good, but the main relay was the problem.

sorry GSteg... i forget about this post

i was referred to another alarm installer. i told him my problem and he went straight for the ignition in the steering column. he suspected that the previous owner had a heavy keychain and caused exessive wear or damage to the ignition. he started the car maybe 12 times in a row with the key without problems, but on the 13th it didn't start. so he raised the key while it was inside the ignition in the "start" position, and sure enough... everything lit up and it started.

the installer didn't charge me anything and wouldn't change out the ignition at this time. he said it's very expensive because i think it involved disassembly of the steering column itself and a lot of other bits. it's still not starting consistently (maybe once every 2 months), but i just adjust the key and it fires up again... hopefully that's all it's going to do to me.

I have definitely heard of that keychain problem.

During the time that your car does not start consistantly, does it make a clicking noise when you turn the key??

yes it does. the clicking noise can be heard from outside the car, and it does it only once, and is followed with all the dash lights going out.

the installer told me he had this problem come up on an IS300 he worked on. i think the parts required to repair it was $500-700cdn, and then there is about a day's labor... he dosen't know what it would take to fix a gs, especially because the steering column is motorized

I thougt the IS300's also have motorized steering columns? Anyways, I just looked in the garage and the GS's key slot is on the dash. Not built into the steering column like the IS300. That might make the job a lot easier. I pulled apart my steering column about 3 weeks ago to do the custom relay foglight mod. The ignition looked like it was pretty easy to remove.

If it only clicks once when you turn your ignition, and all the light goes out, then thats yout starter.

Happened to me about 6 weeks ago.
