Default Quick ? about installing an exhaust?

Like the thread says, Is it a DIY or is there welding involved. the exhaust is a non cat back, just the mufflers. It is a RMM exhaust. Please reply. What is the best course of action to get it to fit just right.

thanks, Lettuce

bolts on and off. Unless your me, and your exhaust was rusted to sh it. in that case, you will have to take a sawzall to it, and use about 25 blades. just ask TLW he will tell you

Bolt-on is soooo easy....unless you like my wife.... just a "gas and drive" type of person.

Oh yah, Dont forget to buy new gaskets. It cost about $10 each from the dealer.

I went with Ltuned and for sure those are total swap. I did that early in the life of the car so, the bolts were not bonded (hot and cold cycle + environement can make them weld to the nuts). If I recall correctly the nuts were spot welded to the muffler. I did a DIY write-up on it.

Make sure you have the the gaskits at hand and tighten the flange evenly. Also remember the sequence in which the rubber hangers come off, if you do the spin dismount. You will need to hook the Oring that came off last, as the first to go on during spin install.

Just did mine, the bolts were stuck so I needed a lift, breaker bar, and 30 minutes I torch would have been handy but the bolts broke nicely for me. Make sure all of the old gasket comes out, some of mine wanted to stay with the car. Good luck

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I just put on a second hand Blitz. Since its a axel back type, it was a quick "jack-up" and install type of thing.

i was going to use the original gaskets, but they were all crappy and stuff, so I just ended up using nothing. I know I "should" get new gaskets, but do I have to?

(BTW I tried to put on the original gaskets, but they sorta made the exhaust flange bulge out a bit so I wasn't really sure if I should just force it on with the leverage of the bolts.... thus my GS4 is running without gaskets...sounds great though. Wife doesn't like the tips though - its her car )

I installed a set of L-Tuned exhausts on my car last week. There are gaskets!!?!? LOL

I have a 2005 GS300. Do the newer cars have a revised design with no gasket? When i pulled off the stock mufflers I did not see any type of gasket. I just bolted on the L-tuned to the pipe without gaskets. The two flanges just sealed flush with each other. Doesn't seem like there is any exhaust leak to me.

The "gaskets" I am referring to are on the axel back type... I think L-tuned is cat back right? But regardless there should be some sort of material to make the connection even more flush.

The gasket on mine is difficult to explain. It looked like a large spacer or something. I was used to gaskets that had actual holes for the bolts and the pipe itself. The one on mine looked like a spacer that fit sorta inside the pipe (i know this doesnt make sense.... i know i should have taken pictures....) But when I say it fit inside there is like an indentation on the pipe so of course the gasket doesn't fall in.

I am probably confusing you more than helping you.... sorry... I'll probably get the stock gasket soon (in Tokyo right now on a biz trip) when I get back to LA. I'll try to take some pics which will explain better...

L-tuned are axel-back. on a 05 the gaskets are brand new!!! So I would think you are fine. I had a 99 with rust and wornout gaskets. Just easier to replace when you unbolt>

Congrats...you're gona love the way rmm sounds. When I got my rmm exhaust it came with gaskets. If u don't get them, just call rmm and tell them about it. FYI...to get a good fit arount the bumper cutouts (even spacing on both sides), you might have to do some bending of the metal hangers (the ones welded to the exhaust). Good Luck.
