Default recommendations for replacement air filter?

hi folks. yes i did a search, but all i could gather were posts on full intake systems

we bought a 99 gs400 that came with an hks intake system, and it kept throwing CELs. after finding out how much it would cost to dyno tune with an apexi safc i chose to reinstall the airbox with it's dingy original filter, which is hurting performance.

i was wondering if there are aftermarket options to a stock panel filter, or should i stay with stock? i do not want to use k&n because of the oil messing up sensors over time. i know i know... use oil sparingly, but after so many times on different cars i has cost me and i don't want to do it anymore.

i tried searching on the net but could only come up with a few names...

- trd
- tom's
- apexi
- blitz

does ne1 have any input on how these perform? which ones are dry filters? paper or foam? disposable or reusable? price?

thanks in advance...

cant really help you out as far as drop in replacements. They wont do anythign really for performance, you're better off just using a new stock filter if you're worried about messing up sensors, etc.

Started writing before I read your entire post. I have a lightly used K&N though.

I would do a search and see if the part numbers match, or call a local dealership and ask if they're the same size.

i've done a search already which is why i posted this thread to begin with... i haven't had much luck.

according to the k&n website:

- k&n part number for gs400 is 33-2137
- oem toyota part number is 1780150030

but i cannot find listing for the gs430... is this the part number for what u have?

local lexus dealer is not very helpful unless i'm buying something from them

Cool I think you'll be happy with it. It is a little more breathable than factory. Good Luck

How much were you quoted to tune an S-AFC??

Installation is simple and tuning should only take about 4 runs - $100.

so that's it... gs400/430 are not interchangeable. i wonder why... bigger airbox on the 430?

i was quoted $100cdn/hr straight time to do the safc, not including the cost of purchasing and installing the controller itself. i was told to expect it to be as much as $800cdn once everything was in and tuned
