Default Loss of power after intake installed

I recently installed a K&N FIPK intake on my 98 GS400 with stock exhaust and I feel like the car is noticeably slower in lower RPMs.
I didnt reset the ecu as Ive heard some do and Im not sure I know the proper way to do it other than just disconnecting the batter for like an hour.
Is this loss of power normal? Is there something I can do to get that power back or should I just go back to the stock intake?
Thanks!!

You might just need to get a new exhaust? It sounds like you need to free up some air... IF there more free air coming in and less going out than you might have a loss in power or seem like its slower...I thought the K@N was supposed to be good? Or try to reset your ECU so the computer can readjust You will get better responses than this I'm sure...Good Luck

Pull out the ECU1 fuse that is in the fusebox under the hood. It took about an hour for mine to fully reset so the longer you can leave it out the better.

There shouldn't really be a noticeable loss in power. But as was stated above - free up some air flow with headers and exhaust and then you will really feel the car come alive.

The K&N is great!!! Once I get above about 3000RPM (alittle under 3k RPM).... I can feel a considerable difference once Im out of the low RPM range...
Maybe Ill take it off.... not 100% yet.

It is a device that you wire into your ECU. Basically, when tuned by a professional it will lean/richen your car so you are running at an optimal Air/Fuel Ratio. When I put mine in my SC400 I gained like 20+hp at the wheels and was running 17% too rich. Needless to say my car ran a lot faster and I saved on gas!!

I agree that its not a major deal... Ive connected similar hook ups to one of my older cars... I just dont want to take my GS to that level... at least not just yet.

Morris is right,

Took me about 20 minutes to install, and you only have to cut 1 wire. Definitely worth it. As soon as I get the headers in and installed I am going to put one on my car.
