That sucks...sorry to hear about it. I'd be willing to bet that you're going to see that light come on again in the not to distant future.

I was just about to say that!

Hey - if it comes on once every 500 miles - no big deal - I'll just go the parts store once a month and get it cleared in 2 minutes for free. Maybe I aught to buy one of those little diagnostic handhelds myself so I can see the code myself and clear it if it's just the shift solinoid.

yeah but then with the money you spend i think it's kinda defeating the purpose, coz' you are only getting a fraction of what you are supposed to get. i would just live with the cel myself

wHAT YEAR IS YOUR CAR AND THE BUILD DATE (IT IS IN THE DRIVERS DOOR JAM) . I doubt the TC would take 20k for a cel and if it does reset every 20k.

My cell came back on - time to get a cheap diag. handheld to clear the thing myself.

That will get rid of the cel but it will also clear out the drive cycles that contain all that emissions data. If his state does not use ODBII for testing, there will be no problem. On the other hand,
if ODBII is used, the cel light could come back on before enough drive cycles are recorded and then
its a crap shoot as to passing an emission test. and that's why I'm reluctant to put on a TC

By any chance, do you know if a hand held clears the code without clearing the drive cycles to allow for ODBII emission testing?

if the state use the odbii during the testing, i believe they will see the thing with cel as well, even if you reset it. i believe after you reset the cel (with the tool), some records will be erased as well and you still have to drive a certain distance to meet that?
