Default GS-300 Engine Replacement

I own a 99 GS-300 currently at 75K miles. Over the past 18 months/25K miles noticed a gradual increase in the consumption of oil between the regular 5K changes. The dealer has kept records on the situation, which began well within the warrantee period. In my behalf, the head service Tec has repeatedly contacted Lexus to determine if the consumption could be addressed as a warrantee claim. Until this past week the response from Lexus has been that one quart per 5K miles is within standards.

Now that the consumption is exceeding one quart a meeting was arranged with the dealer and a Lexus factory rep. Not accepting any responsibility, the factory rep agreed to remove the valve cover and oil pan to inspect the engine. Clearly they were anticipating that there would be gel and other signs that indicated neglect or abuse.

What they found was a very clean engine that had no indications of being neglected. With that said, Lexus has agreed to cover a short block and related parts ($4000.00) and I pay the labor ($3500.00).

I’m feeling like I’m being squeezed to participate in the shared cost proposal. Would appreciate any feed back from those of you who may have experienced a similar situation.
