If you're seeing 3000 RPM with a 3.76, the engine speed would be 2577 with a 3.23 gear. That's 423 extra RPM, not 300.
On my epic "430 mile tank of gas journey" I noted some mph vs rpm (for my stocked 3.23 geared GS430):

60 mph: 2000 rpm
70 mph: 2300rpm
80mph: 2600rpm

So I measure 400rpm less @ 80mph compared to your re-geared GS, just like I calculated. The mistake was claiming your tachs showed 2700rpm at 80mph when your GS was stock.

Theory matches practical as close as can be expected for the analog tach.

I guess we can all conclude that the tach in the gs is inaccurate. But if your not going to do FI, a 3.76 is the only way to go (at least for me that is)

Vette Boy, I also wanted to mention to you that you are blowing this issue out of proportion and are potentially robbing yourself of an awesome mod.

I am willing to bet that if you did a poll to find out if anyone regrets going to the Supra LSD with 3.76 gearing, nobody and I mean nobody will have any regrets about doing this mod.

Trust me, you will not look back and regret doing this mod at all. Bottom line, find a member close to you and go for a drive if that is possible. Better yet, if you are within 10 hours of D.C., come out to the big meet that is being planned right now in the NE forum. Lots of members including myself will be there and you are more than welcome to take my car out for spin to see if this is a real issue for you. I highly doubt it.

Hameed, here's what I did to test what a 3.76 would be like: shift into 4th gear and drive at the speed where the engine RPM is 3000 (~70mph), I really don't like the engine reving so high. The NVH level is significantly higher, this is not what I'm looking for. I have the same issue with my Impala (it has a 3.73 gear with 27" diameter tires). Now that I drive quite a few highway miles, I really apprerciate lower revs at 75mph. It's one of the reasons why I dumped my Impala.

- Does anyone run other gears here besides stock and 3.76?

- Any time slips?

- Any experience with other cars?
