Completely normal if car is in park. It's the shift lock mechanism which only allows you to take it out of park if the brake pedal is pressed.
how about a clicking/knocking noise from the engine when I accelerate? It doesnt happen all the time, sometime's when I go uphill and accelerate, or when Im accelerating to merge on to the freeway. Someone told me it might be a spark plug, but thought I just throw it out there for anyone else to advise on.

sounds like you're pinging. Do you use premium fuel? If yes, than you may have a fuel delivery or ignition problem. I had a car once that pinged (detonate) when the egr went.
I'm getting a clicking noise from the shifter/trans when I first start the car. It kinda sounds like a quiet diesle engine. It goes away after a short time of driving. Anyone know what it could be. I did get a check engine light and VSC light constant which went away within 24hrs about two weeks ago.
