Default Heat problems

Maybe someone can help me out here.

I recently went on a Mountain run in NC and had some really weird heating issues.
The car started to overheat badly 1/2 way through the run The car temp started to rise rapidly. I turned the heater on and the temp came back down, but I did have to keep it on for the rest of the run. The car got so hot that the exhaust gas temp probe melted down.

I did run the mountain at high RPM 5-6K for most of it. I spent most of the time in 2nd and 3rd gear. I dont know if that contributed to it.

Now I never had this problem before and I have not had it in the 2 weeks or so since. I have a new radiator that went in with the blower, intercooler and tranny cooler.

The shop chekced the thermostat and it is okay, the AC was not on at the time.

The shop is saying that Blowers add heat and that I should just let up if it happens again. That hardly sounds like a satisfactory solution to me.

Questions

Any idea what could be causeing it
Is there anything that can be done.
Is this just a fact of life and I shouyld deal with it.

Well I am assured that it is not lean in fact they put it on something called a wideband before they ever gave me the car to ensure that the fuel mixuter was good.

I suppose I can check for the air pockets, how would you do htat just run the car let it heat up and keep the cap off ?

The wideband [O2] is just a sensor that can detect a lean condition but it will not prevent it. Are you running any type of aftermarker AF management?

Uh, hello? 5-6k with a supercharger in 2nd and 3rd up and down steep twisty mountain roads... I guar-on-tee that contributed to it!

Right but you probably haven't abused your engine in such a sustained way since either!

You basically drove you car like a race car for a sustained amount of time. It's really no wonder it got so hot. When I go to the mountain runs I try to let the car cool off after maybe 20 minutes, and even during that time, there's no way I stay at 5-6K, I don't find the need to be honest.

Check for a lean condition if you have not already done so. I recently hada mountain run with the car around 4500-6200 rpm in 100+ weather. The needle did go up a bar but well within the safe area. Come to find that my GS is running a tad lean.

I'm running the SAFCII for fuel management.

I where a size 17 not 13
It was over 90 degrees that particular day, I would tend to agree that the driving conditions contributed to the issue. I just thought that perhaps there was something I could do to prevent it from reoccuring, the shop is checkking on some kind of cooling system additive that is supposed to reduce the temp and we are lookinig at a lower temp radiator.

Call me naieve, I just expected the car to be able to handle it. Now I know bettter.

Thanks everyone.
