which motor oil would you guys recommend and why? and how much goes into that engine, i have a 2001 gs300.

i use mobil 1, for my v8 it's 6 quats. i forgot about the i6, something like 5 quarts?

 

GS300 takes 5.7 quarts

 

Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic Motor Oil.. Lol!

You seem to have a problem with Mobil 1 oil. Is there a particular reason for this? I have been a user of this oil for many years, but lately I have switched to AMSOIL. Have you heard anything about Mobil 1 that is not good?

I haven't changed the oil in my recently acquired 2001 GS430, but it'll be subject to the same oil change regimen that has served my entire family very well. I just use whatever SAE approved oil (of the proper viscosity, of course) that's currently on sale, and replace it with filter every 5000 miles or so. Remember that Toyota engines are of the highest quality and designed to take punishment and to survive on third world maintenance schedules and facilities. That said, however, if it makes you feel better to use a certain brand/type of oil, use it. On the long run, synthetic oil will only be slightly more expensive than my regimen, but you'll feel good about it. And that's really what the oil companies want.

PS: Consumer Reports did an oil test with a taxi fleet a few years back the supported my experience with oils. Try to find it because it's good reading.

Dude, I don't have a problem with Mobil1.. I use it all the time.. What made you say this? Well, I was just laughing because I sounded like a sales rep from the company.. Hahaha! I change my oil every 5k miles using this. I'm also using 5w-30 viscosity.

 

I use Mobil 1 15W-50. But then again I am also twin turboed and live in the tropics. You might want to stick to 10W-40 or so...
