Default notchy shift from park to reverse..??

hi.

i sometimes get a notchy shift when i shift from park to drive. sometimes if shifts hard and some sometimes it shifts just fine. it doesnt matter if im on a hill or flat land, it just happens 2 outta 5 times. i drained and refilled the tranny twice. could this be a problem of too much or too little oil?

i checked the trans dip stick while the car is running right after i start it and after 20 minutes of driving around, im reading at the hot level that the oil is ok. this reading is also the same right after i start the car with no driving around.

what can this be? thanks.

I think it's normal. Kinda depends on where the park lock is relative to wheel position (you know how the car rolls back or forward a bit if you leave it in park and don't put on the park brake?).

yes i know that rocking back and forth motion. is that normal..says on a slanted drive way? ive have always had a manuel and the car never rocked because i always applied the e brake first. this is my first automatic and i do also apply the e brake but only after the car is done rocking..is this the right procedure? thanks

Rocking is normal if you apply park brake after, but you shouldn't do that - just as with your stick, put the car in park with foot on brake pedal, then apply park brake, then take foot off brake pedal.

Less stress on the tranny that way. A park brake is cheaper than a tranny to fix.
