Question Twin Turbo GS400

Hi everyone,

I'm new at this, I've owned a few LS400's and sold my last one a 98 w/ Navigation HID's and everything else offered to upgrade to a 2004 LS430, then changed my mind and decided to go to a SC430 cause i'm having a mid-life crisis at 29. All was well till I found out if I didnt pay cash for the car my insurance (full coverage, something I've never had) would be $4800 per year

Anyways I bought a 98 GS400 with a navigation system, HID's, etc. I have to say these things are fun to drive and are begging to be modified. I think I've read here that someone on the board has a Twin Turbo GS400, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about them I checked out the SRT site and got a 404 on the page.

Thanks in advance,

Braheem

well the tt setup on the gs400 would run you a nice 30k, i would think twice before making the call. to me that's just way too much money for the job. just my 2 cents. plus i heard that the spacing for the turbo is just way too close in terms of space. no first hand experience though

and btw, you have a very bad driving record? 4800 a yr for sc430 insurance that's insane! it's more than double of mine and i have my wife's name on it too (if i get a sc430)

WOW, 30K ???

I think I better stick to a SRT intake and a torque converter for now.

Thanks Bro.

Send a PM to jmecbr900 and ask him about his Supercharger setup. Apparently that cost him less than 10K. If you were looking to spend that much then you are in luck.

Just drop a 2jz-gte in your car. This will cost less than $10k.

It still seems a little drastic to change motors, I was expecting a turbo system to be in the $5k range plus I enjoy a lot of torque at low RPM''s something I would lose in a V6TT, I used to have a Porsche Turbo it could EASILY do 180MPH, but had no power till you floored the car, then it made you wish you didnt .

I have a GS4 twin turbo setup in my car, and I also had a supercharger system in the same car at one time, and I can definitely say there is a BIG difference in low end push with the turbos. Since you have a V8, you would want to go with 2 turbos instead of one. If you open up your hood, you will see what I mean in terms of space, and housing one turbo with piping. My suggestion is to call around for your options. Call SRT and see what is, or will (hint hint) be available in terms of F/I for the GS4. If you have any questions regarding either a supercharger setup, or a twin turbo setup, PM me. Again, I have had both a turbo, and S/C system in the same car.

Dont rub it in, I didnt want to THROW AWAY $4800 per year on full coverage car insurance, so I paid cash for the GS400 for now, the 2004 LS isnt out of the picture yet, but I'm really enjoying the european feel the GS offers, its a totally different suspension from the 98 LS400 I had.

BTW I called Swift racing today and inquired about the Twin Turbo GS400, the guy said it's a total rebuild of the engine and transmission, it is only in house and you get a totally different car back.

Sounded good to me cause I was worried about the other little things that would need replacing to handle a turbo V8, but he said they take care of all of it for a mere $35,000

Plan B still in the works

Not to be a jerk, but I have to ask, have you ever owned a European car? IMHO, the GS has a very Japanese feel. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it surely isn't a European feel. I totally understand your point about it being a lot different than the LS, but I just don't see it having the feel of a European (read German) car.
