You need a heat shield and a tuned AFC.

Default Heat shield and tuned AFC?

Hi, I have an intake similar to the AEM one, but instead it is BOMZ racing and costs about $40. It has the same performance increase, but I have not noticed any bog down. Is it the filter on yours?(K&N is best)... or possibly the placement under the hood? Also, do you have your OEM intake piece that takes the air from the beginning of the hood and shoots it directly onto the filter? I am not using that on mine(it wouldn't fit with my intake) and everything is running fine.

I have heard that the heat shield doesn't do much performance wise, and what is a tuned AFC? Thanks kris-300 and good luck datboijoe with your intake.

romyo247:
I will be dyno testing my car this weekend at the clublexus meet. So far, i can tell a more pronounced, deeper sound, from my catback system, and maybe(?) better acceleration...i'll let you know after this sunday. it is a good deal from what i can tell you now. it can be found on ebay if you want it. good luck

i installed an SRT intake that comes w/ an ECU. To my knowledge you need to upgrade or at least reprogram your ECU when you have an intake for it to work properly. I heard w/ out an ECU upgrade the check engine light will come on.
Go to .net & you will find many post on this subject.
People who don't do anything to the ECU have problems. I haven't had any problems w/ mine so far. It looks great & has a really sweet sound.
It has also been mentioned that the 0-60 times do not get better.
I'm not an expert on this, its just what i have been reading.
Hope this helps a little.

Hey guys, i got the results from the clublexus meet. So far, after a new race/y pipe, bomz intake, and axleback exhaust (doesn't go all the way to the middle of the car), i improved my hp by 20 and my torque by 8. Totals now are at 175 hp and 175 torque (SAE corrected). I just got new headers so that should help out some (anywhere from 5-15). My intake right now has a little leak where it connects to the engine so i need to get a little rubber piece to seal it to possibly get some power back. After talking with Jason at JPImportz, he reaffirmed what i already believed: paying more for the injen, AEM, and other brands means your paying for the name, advertising, and R&D. The other companies on ebay offer the same product--just cheaper and not with some of the other bells and whistles that the more expensive ones come with like the heatshield, warranty, or instructions. Hope that helps out guys. Good Luck!

HEAT shield is VERY VERY impt, if the design of the intake is not done properly the car will bog without a heatshield. theres a reason why the srt and the injen come with the heatshield.

Default heat shield

just how important is it? My cheap bomz one gets closer to the headers than the other intakes so it may be getting some heat in there. Thanks.

I probably ought to just cough up the cash and get the injen one.
