I got a 216k mile 98’ GS300, she runs but definitely not as smooth as she could,
1.backfires at 3,5k rpm , either parked or cruising, it keeps me from going past 85mph
2. rollback/ shifting lag, at start up I have to press that small reset next to the shifter, it's usually a 50/50 that I have to press reset whenever I shift between park, reverse and drive. She'll be in drive and won't go forward in idle, just roll back if I don't brake, even at stop signs. With he shifting lag, I'll be going 20-30mph and she'll sound like she's redlining but at 3k rpm, I'll usually just let off so she can try shifting easier
3. I try not to come to a immediate stop because of this next problem but with NY driver's/ traffic sometimes I have to, but if I'm cruising and have to immediately stop for a light or someone merging whatever it may be, if it's a hard stop she'll shiver basically and shut down and I'll get a Christmas tree on the dash, at those times I turn her off and then back on and it'll be good to go.
Any and all info would be very appreciated🙏🏻 I get told to just sell her but I'm pretty sentimental and I wanna give this gs a new life, thank y'all for reading
Your car has some serious problem(s). Start with getting codes scanned for the car. Engine and Transmission ECU are integrated and faults within one system can definitely cause drivability issues that might seem related to the other. There are dozens of sensors, any number of which could be triggering faults causing these issues, not to mention actual mechanical failures that could exist. I reiterate, start with getting codes scanned and use that as a starting point.
