Hey all, just ordered a flash tune kit from Loi and wanted to get a "base" run in before I flash the ecu. I just wanted to ask and get clarification on what parameters the car should be in on the dyno. I've read some threads where it has to be in snow mode and traction control off. What mode should it be set in when doing the pulls? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

6th gear if you have an 8 speed, and you'll need to know if it has SPDS or if it will downshift when flooring, if the car doesn't hold gear, it'll be harder to dyno.

If the car downshifts when it wants to, you can try snow mode and build up to WOT.

 

Just got the kit today! Gotta schedule a dyno run sometime soon, though I'm debating if it's even worth doing one before the flash. My local dyno shop charges $150 for 3 pulls..
Okay so tell the dyno guy to have it in 6th gear in manual mode. I have an 8 speed, so I'm assuming it has SPDS. Should I just tell them to put it in snow mode?

 

I have the 8 speed RWD. Just fully turn off traction control (traction control icon illuminating yellowish orange on the dash) and you can do your pulls. I use 4th gear.

 

TC has nothing to do with the dyno, and for the 8 speed, 6th gear is the correct gear.

 

Just my 2 cents, if your car is bone stock, most would already know what the dynos are for that car(unless there arent any threads or info for a 2014 IS350 before and after dynos). So up to you, if you know what they are from another car, then there isnt a need and just post the after.

 

Did every stock IS350 make the exact same whp? It's always a good idea to do a before and after pull, otherwise how will he know exactly how much whp the tune added? I would want to know exact figures for MY car.

 

Completely incorrect, he might have a general number that other cars have made, but he won't know exactly. Different cars will have slight differences, not to mention differences in temperature, barometric pressure, and altitude all having an effect on power.

Dyno is really unimportant anyways, what does your HP number tell you??

Dragy is what you want to use, that way you can know what your car actually runs 0-60mph or in the quarter mile.

 

Well i guess that makes sense, i just thought every car had the same stock info/numbers, but having external aspects that can affect it makes sense to do a before an after. Also dragy, as in drag race?

Sort of, Dragy is a small device you buy, that connects to your phone and satellites. It can accurately test your cars performance metrics, but you don't have to go to a dragstrip or buy any safety equipment.

You drag race your car on a safe, flat road, and it tells you how fast you really are. Then you can see what others are running in the leaderboards.

 

Ok I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff but learning. i was going to mention I don't have a track nearby to test so getting this wouldn't be worth it unless you live by one. If you were to get one of these, do I just begin literally at 0 and punch the gas until 60 to measure? Oh forgot to mention to turn off the traction part right, or would you need that as well?

 

Basically, yes. You would also need to set up the device, then find any straight, flat road near you (preferably at night) and launch the car. traction off if you have good tires, and go to about 70, since the speedo isn't accurate.
