Hello I’m getting my exhaust done and it’s going to be straight piped from the two front cats back. I was wondering if removing all the mufflers, center cat, and resonators would cause it to back fire when the exhaust gets hot. Also will removing the center cat cause any problems? Such as throwing off lights or losing power. Im going to be using 2.5” piping. Thanks

There’s a lot of information on this topic. It’s been proven that straight pipes will lose power. You should retain the factory piping from the cats to the first Y (before the center cat) and from that Y make a straight pipe (2.5”), or add a resonator. That straight center section will be split to a Y at the back like factory, using an aftermarket Y, or 2-1 merge collector. From this second Y, reduce piping diameter to 2.25” to the rear mufflers.
So, to recap:
Factory components you’re keeping:
Front cats
Front Y
Aftermarket components you’re upgrading:
Center piping
Rear Y
Rear piping
Mufflers
This has been tested to be the best way to extract the most power on a lightly modified SC400.
^ Nick is correct! And you shouldn't have any problems removing the rear center cat. I passed emissions here in CO without mine and just the front primaries.
