Default 2JZ cam covers

so i dont want to start an entire thread on this, but the engine thread i suggested got shot down... so why exactly do people always take the cam covers off their JZ? it confuses me... wouldn't that jsut introduce more chances for pollutants to enter the engine?

That is a really good question and I’m honestly not sure.

Stuff can't enter the engine just from taking the cam covers off. only the cam gears and timing belt stuff gets exposed.
You can drop something down there though and cause issues with the belt, but if you are careful in that area its not a big deal.

It is mostly a preference/cosmetic thing but if you are constantly working on your engine then its just easier to leave it off (why I did it).
Lots of times when removing those 6 or whatever cam cover bolts I would drop one and then spend a bunch of time searching for it.
Over time I learned to magnetize my bit so I wouldn't loose them as easy.

Like If you are trying to find tdc to set timing, or do other work, then you need to remove the cover to look at the timing marks.
If you have cams that are adjustable that would be another reason also.
Another one is you can keep an eye on the belt to make sure everything looks good, if it starts to fray you will see it before it shreds.

It is also annoying to line up the oil cap ring thing every time you reinstall it, only takes a few seconds once you know but its very fiddly.
Basically the day you realize you have taken that cover off more times than you care to count, one tends to just leave it off.
All it does is keep things from falling down in that cover area, so just don't drop stuff in there and you are good
Heck the first time I tear down a 2jzge, half the brackets and canisters don't go back on it when I am done.

OP - I don't think the mods shut down two of your previous threads. They were not in the right section that is why I see two of them having moved by our mods.

Anything about maintenance , performance or engine / drivetrain related question goes to the Performance & Maintenance Section.

I would keep this thread here for a day or two so you will see it still .. but I will move it to the Performance / Maintenance Section soon.

If you go to that section or even your profile you will see that your threads which you were referring to were not deleted... just moved to the right place.
