Default SC300 Automatic transmission (no passing gear)

Question. I have a 99 SC300 with an automatic that has no power. If I fully press on the gas pedal from a dead stop I get a very short burst of power (2 seconds) then the transmission feels like it kicks into limp mode. Shifts through all gears but has no power. Driving down the road I have no passing gear just a weak acceleration. Auto parts store said I had an engine code/transmission code that said 2nd gear solenoid was faulty. Any help to resolve this would be awesome.

Can you post the code that the scanner gave you so that we can help diagnose further? Obviously you could swap the transmission if you needed, however, that solenoid may be replaceable. Someone will have to chime in to give some better advice than I have to offer.

After a search on this forum it does appear that a couple of those codes coincide with a bad shift solenoid. I'm not sure which one exactly. They are replaceable if you pull your transmission pan and drain all of the fluid. If you have the means, it may be worth $100 or so to take it to a Toyota/Lexus specialists to verify that's the issue at hand. If so, replacing a solenoid could be much cheaper/easier than replacing the transmission. However, working on automatic transmissions is not my specialty so if anyone has more info or better advice to offer please chime in.

Yeah i mean throw a solenoid at it, have a professional do it if you want because it would only be an hour or 2 in labor.

Otherwise your looking at a new trans but i'm sure you can find a used auto someone doesnt need because they went manual.

Or manual swap time =)
