Exclamation 1998 Lexus Sc400 Catalytic Converters

Hello Everyone,

I am replacing my catalytic converters on my 1998 SC400 and searching for parts. Does anyone know if SC300 converters are the same and if so which year? I keep coming up blank when I search for SC400 converters. I am ideally looking for aftermarket converters since OEM ones cost roughly $3000 and are too expensive. A year ago I put in a new 4.0L DOHV 1UZ-FE V8 VVTI engine, however, I am not sure if this will affect what type of catalytic converters I will need. Although the engine dealer did recommend to search for 2000 SC400 catalytic converters so, maybe 2000 SC300 converters will work. If anyone has any knowledge about this please let me know.

I don't know whether SC300 and SC400 cats are the same (but I doubt it). 1998-2000 should all be common parts, so the info to search for 2000's was probably just to look at the tail end of the "generation" for possibly turning up bookend parts listings.

SC300 and SC400 cats are not the same, no. You can't use SC300 cats (which have some mostly non-physical differences depending on model year and emissions type they're intended for) on an SC400.

Furthermore, 1998-2000 SC400 cats are most likely different from any variation the cats for Federal and Cali emissions types of the 1992-1997 SC400's. Although it may be that 1998-2000 SC400's all use 50 state emission cats but I am NOT certain of that.

Another thing you can do is visit the partsouq, select Lexus and see if the 1998-2000 SC400's have a specific listing in the model year spans shown. They may or may not but it's worth a look. Barring that, try the Carson Toyota or Lexus of Pembroke Pines trademotion sites to see OEM parts listings there.

I am not aware of what aftermarket catalytic convertors are available for the 98-00 SC400's but if you are looking to make them properly legal and can't afford OEM then look into the Catco/Airtek or Magnaflow OBD2 catalytic convertor catalogs. My bet would be on Catco/Airtek though.

Sorry to not have anything more specific. Your version of the SC400 was made in relatively low numbers until 2000 so the aftermarket cat options available for those may be much slimmer than for any of the 1992-1997 SC400's which were produced in much higher numbers.
