Default 1995 SC400 Subwoofer Issue

Hi,

My factory sound system has a subwoofer that starts buzzing at 1/3 volume. I bought an EBay subwoofer, and once installed, it sounded as bad as the original one. I took the subwoofer to an audio shop, who referred me to a place that refurbishes speakers. The man there looked it over, hooked it up to a meter, and said the subwoofer was fine and that something in the car was rattling.

Once I got home, and checked for something that was rattling, and, sure enough, it was the sub buzzing. I unbolted the sub and reconnected it, and it was buzzing in my hand.

Seems like no one carries anything that will fit. What am I to do? I don't want to buy a new head unit if I can get a replacement sub to replace the blown ones.

Have u replaced or tested the sound quality of the rear/side door speakers? If u still have stock the rears r the first to deteriorate. I experienced and replaced my rear speakers and did a DIY. If interested?

Thanks for the reply. I changed out the rear speakers with some 4 inch Kenwood 4 ohm coax speakers, but that didn't help with sub buzzing bolted down and in my hand.

You sure it isn't an issue with the foam surround going bad? Seems like it's a common issue with the LS430 subwoofers. If so, then this thread here may be useful in pointing out where to go for parts needed...

Thanks for the reply. I tried using a 6x9 Coaxial speaker in an enclosure connected to sub wires, and it started buzzing like the other subwoofers. It was suggested that it may be a problem with the sub amp or head unit. I found a Kicker PX200.1 sub amp for ATVs, 100w@1 ohm on Amazon for under $50, which is what I need. The plan once it arrives is to patch it in where the amp is located and give it a try. If it works, I will let you know.

I am not looking to enter any stereo system contests, but want crisp sound. Being the other speakers don't sound bad, I am keeping my fingers crossed that the sub amp is the problem.
