Default Engine Rebuild?

After picking up my '98 SC400, I thought it'd be smart to swap the spark plugs, just to start fresh.
While doing that I thought I'd be smart and run a compression test (really should have done this before I bought it. #NoRegets) I found that 7 out of 8 are running around 150~160PSI, while 1 in the corner is only doing 100PSI. The shop that did it told me it is a head gasket leak and would cost $2000CAD to redo the head gaskets.

After doing some internet research, I did the few common troubleshooting techniques (hoping that it would be just the intake valve sitting improperly due to carbon buildup). One of the most common method was to pour 1tbsp of engine oil into the cylinder and redo the compression test, and see if cylinder compression changes. It does according to what online says, that means the piston rings and the cylinder walls aren't sealed property.

So now the question becomes, should I save up to get the engine rebuilt or drop a new one in?

Well, $2K is ridiculous for a head gasket. Must be a Lexus Stealership quote. Check around with some independents for quotes, You should be able to get a used engine for $500 or so. Finally, if you are sure it's a head gasket leak pour a bottle of head gasket stop leak in. See what happens. You got nothing to lose.

It definitely sounds like a piston ring issue instead of a head gasket.

Just enjoy the car as it is. As long as you keep it in tip top shape you've got years of life left in that motor.

So the drop is cylinder compression isn't a big deal? there isn't any engine code relating to the issue, so I guess it's okay. Been doing oil changes ~5000mi, factory oil filters + Mobil 1 high mileage oil. trying to baby it
