Unhappy Head Gasket vs Engine replacement

I have a 93 ES300. I went to the mechanics today because my car ran hot and the antifreeze was pouring out of the reserve tank line ( I assume). They do the pressure test and say that my head gasket is going bad. Whats the deal??? I don't see any white smoke.... yet!!!! And if it is starting to go would it make more sence to replace the engine in opposed to just replacing the head gasket? They told me. 1540.00 to replace the head gasket and 2007.00 for the engine? What should I do? Are those prices about right? Is there any alternative? HHHHEEELLLLLLPPPPPP!!!!

If your mechanic is not the Lexus dealer, I'd go there and get a diagnostic. Could save you some money.
