92 SC400 Timing Belt/Kit $800
sc has 91k on it, all original parts.
Local shop will do timing belt kit including water pump, hoses, tensioner, parts and labor for $800.
That sound reasonable?

That's a good price, depending on parts used, if you get an original Toyota water pump, gates timing belt kit with tentioner and pulley, then you got a great deal!!
If not original parts , you'll be doing the waterpump again, I can't comment on timing belts, but yeah the price is good...
Toyota dealers usually charts in the range of 1100-1200 depending on the dealer to do all the above

That price sounds fairly cheap. Just make sure the mechanic is one you trust. Personal experience, used a mechanic to replace some major engine parts on one of my vehicles and the mechanic put something on backwards which caused a rod shoot through the bottom of the motor.
